What to Wear On Valentine’s Day.

What to Wear On Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is next week! As I am in LA right now, I likely won’t see my boyfriend on the actual day but I may round up a few girlfriends for a cozy night in. I am truthfully not a huge dresser upper for Valentine’s Day but given that red is so big right now, I thought it would be fun to round up some outfit ideas (for more inspiration, see also, splash of red!). And besides, red is always a mood booster and it’s fun to be a little festive, even if I’m just hanging at home.

Valentine’s Day Outfits

There are plenty of ways to look nice on Valentine’s Day, no matter what your plans are. There is a perfect outfit for every occasion (even if that occasion is just sitting on the couch!). Here are ten outfit ideas, whether you are having a girls night, heading out for date night, or snuggling up with a good book and a glass of wine.

fuzzy red sweater

A fuzzy red sweater

This is a little cringe (lol) but I remember reading a woman’s magazine when I was young saying that for a date it was a good idea to wear fabrics that would make him want to touch you. A silky blouse, an angora sweater, etc. When I saw this sweater from J.Crew I actually laughed out loud because I thought of that advice. Dated advice aside, this just looks very soft and cozy. I would pair it with classic denim and chunky gold jewelry (honestly, the way the bracelets are styled above is pretty perfect!).

Cute tee | What to Wear On Valentine's Day

A cute little tee

Sezane has the cutest tees (white, red) right now. I love the idea of just one of these, a pair of high waisted denim, and simple jewelry.

wrap dress and heels

a sweeping wrap dress and heels

This is an outfit post from two years ago, shot for our Valentine’s Day Edit. This dress is Hutch and it is sold out but you could easily get the look with this Ganni wrap dress, this floral wrap dress, or this stunning floral number. Also, gah: this Proenza number, majorly marked down. The pearl heels are still available, they are so fun – you can’t see in the photo but there is a beautiful satin bow in back.

Valentine's Day pajamas

a set of sweet pajamas

These Parterre pajamas are so pretty! More ideas: You know how much I love Eberjey’s washable silk pajamas. This long red set is absolutely perfect but I also love this short set (in a fun pattern). Lake also has the cutest heart pajamas. I have and love this set, same goes for this robe. The robe is a longtime fav, I love the fabric and that the sash is attached! They run TTS but size up if you want a looser fit. Last but not least, I love Petite Plume’s Valentine’s Day shop. How adorable is this sweet nightshirt? This striped one too! Through 2/15 you can get 15% off at Petite Plume with my code GRACE15.

What to Wear On Valentine's Day

something a little sexier

Ooh! Net-a-Porter has the most stunning assortment of pretty delicate things. A few favorite pink and red Valentine’s Day outfits, clockwise from top right: red satin robe, burgundy set, blush set, pink chemise. I also think that a silky menswear inspired night shirt is so sexy: this one looks pretty fab. I also really like this (under $100) red chemise.

You’re going to need a fun slipper. I feel irresponsible pointing out these Olivia von Halle slippers but aren’t they dreamy? I instead opted for this pair from Amazon. Same vibe. They are not nearly as beautiful but for 2% (Yes, seriously, let that sink in!), they’re a much better buy.

red heels

A really good red heel

If I were doing girls’ night for Valentine’s Day, I’d probably do a fun red heel. can’t get these red Manolos out of my head. Aren’t they stunning? I also love the Larroude Amore sandal but it’s completely sold out in every size and color, le sigh. On an even more impractical note I adore these Roger Vivier jeweled heels. But being practical (both in price point and heel height), I love these studded slingbacks and these sharp kitten heels. Also, these under $100 suede slingbacks which have big Manolo energy.

For these, I’d keep the rest of the look simple. A great white button down (perhaps the Sezane Max?), classic denim, a chunky gold stud (or maybe the Dorsey Crawford).

What to Wear On Valentine's Day

Silky red kaftan + black bra + vintage-y sparkle

I really loved this outfit. I wore it to the party I hosted for my friend Dan’s party (obvi wanted to wear red!) but it would be a great Valentine’s Day outfit. The dress is from Lee Matthews (obsessed with this brand) and it’s on sale at Shopbop right now. I wore this Anine Bing lace bra which peeks through just enough; and of course my beloved Dorsey Crawfords! This kaftan is very fun as well.

Casual valentine's day outfit

Casual valentine’s day outfit – pops of red

I was inspired by this outfit I found on Pinterest (anyone know who she is? Love this look!). It’s simple with just the amount of red. A classic Burberry trench, whatever jeans or chinos, sweet mary jane flats (there are so many great options out there and I’ve never been a Rothy’s girl but I loved these little flats!), a button down layered under a marinière (size up for layering purposes), and a big fuzzy scarf. Her bag was surprisingly hard to source but I loved this big slouchy bag from Etsy (this one is good too!). Top it off with fun sunglasses and you are good to go.

casual valentine’s day outfit – oversized sweater

I saw this look on Instagram and LOVED it. So simple and easy. Sadly her Sezane sweater is sold out in red so we’re going to take this oversized sweater from Everlane and layer it over this tank top from Sold Out. This is important, you want the collar to peek out a little bit. You could also wear it over our beloved Hanes Tee but those Sold Out tanks are truly just layering perfection. Add your favorite jeans and a cute little shoe. I love these from Madewell or these for something more splurgy. These are cute too! PS – we just got a code for Sold Out! Use GRACE15.

Red reformation dress

this reformation dress

Whenever I think “date night,” tend to think of Reformation. Anyone else? This dress is amazing. I am always cold so tend to want sleeves, making this perfect. I love that it is fitted through the waist and roomier through the hips. Two other Reformation dresses I absolutely love for Valentine’s Day are this one (sexier than the one I chose)and this one (fancier than the one I chose)!
