Splash of Red!
If there is one important fashion trend for fall, it’s definitely the color red. In this episode of WhoWhatWear’s podcast, they call red “the only color that matters for fall.” Dramatic (and you know I love all colors), but this season? It really is just all about red.
Although this collage and post are a huge wash of red, this trend is meant to be done subtly. I hate the phrase “pop of color” (blogger cliche?) but that is what we are going for here. Just a little splash of red. I think a lot about this grid post from Erin (a woman I know here in Charleston, she has amazing style and makes the most impeccable shirts). Her post inspired me to purchase a pair of red Gammarelli socks last February and I love them. Jess Graves also has a great trendspotting post with even more red ideas. I really appreciated her suggestion to incorporate a tiny red monogram or carry a small red purse.
Mix Neutral with Red
Besides red socks, I like the idea of wearing any of these pieces with a fully neutral outfit. Think of the Longchamp bag (another thing I loved in the late nineties that is back again now) against a big fuzzy camel coat. A red slingback paired with a navy sweater and jeans. A cherry red sweater thrown over your shoulders. A t-shirt peeking out from underneath a neutral sweater with jeans. Ballet flats are another great way to wear red. They are majorly back in style (did you see this piece? Deeply relatable!) so you get a twofer of sorts.
Whatever you decide to do, the key to this trend is to go totally neutral (think camel, navy, charcoal, grey, denim) with one standout red piece. You get one! (I’m really just saying this for myself here; restraint has never really been my thing). I like this trend a lot. It’s subtle but fun. Less truly is more here; by keeping the rest of the look simple, the red really gets to shine.

I love that!!!!
I’m trying to remember a book about the power of wearing red shoes. “ Something is different about you, but I can’t think what. You look great!” Other people not realizing it’s your red shoes! Lol
