We talk about lashes a lot here. But: If you have followed me for any length of time, you know how much I love Augustinus Bader. The Rich Cream is probably my holy grail desert island skin care essential. It’s extremely hydrating and makes my skin just glow and feel so good. While it is hard to measure anti-aging benefits, I really do think my skin looks better than it did when I started using it several years ago. For the past 5 years (I started using it right when the brand launched in 2018, read my review here) it’s been my number one moisturizer. Completely worth the money in my opinion.
In all honesty, while I will probably be using The Rich Cream for life and have the utmost respect for Professor Augustinus Bader the person, I’ve not been particularly impressed by most of the brand’s other products. Maybe it’s because I love the Rich Cream so much that I expected to be blown away by all the other Augustinus Bader products… I don’t know. The retinol is pretty good, I really like the soothing cream (review here!), the face mask is OK… I think the cleansers and regular serum are overpriced for what they are, and don’t get me started on the hair care line (with the exception of the leave in cream, it’s not for me). That being said, the brow and lash serum is truly fantastic. I have been using this for over six months now and am really impressed.
PS – This is included in Bluemercury’s big beauty sale. You’ll have to add something else to your cart to get to $200 but now is the time to try it!
Augustinus Bader Eyebrow and Lash Serum Review
I was really curious about this one as I love GrandeLash but it is irritating (and I kept reading bad things about some of its ingredients). GrandeLash WORKED, though… would this? As I read up on each of the key ingredients of this product, you’ll see a theme. The TLDR here is that this formula is less about using ingredients that encourage new hair growth than it is about ingredients that strengthen the follicle and prevent lashes from falling out.
Ingredients
The lash serum is formulated without irritants or allergens and is vegan + fragrance-free. Besides the ingredients below, the formula also contains the brand’s proprietary trigger factor complex and a hyaluronic acid complex
Roselle and Safflower Extracts
These two extracts are rich in phytosterols and polyphenols that increase circulation to encourage regrowth. They also help to decrease the inflammation and oxidative stress that can trigger hair loss.
Biotin
Biotin helps to strengthen the hair follicles.
Red Winter Algae
Red Winter Algae helps prevent hair loss. The main benefit of most lash serums is that they condition the lashes and keep them from falling out. Less fall out = thicker, longer lashes.
How The Augustinus Bader Eyebrow and Lash Serum Works
In a study conducted by the brand, lash length increased by 34%, lash thickness increased by 40%, and eyebrow thickness increased 55%
No irritation
This was the biggest benefit for me. It’s a totally clean product, and does not irritate the eyelid or eye at all. This is huge as other lash serums I’ve tried can be very irritating. I love the look of longer lashes but at what cost!?
Longer Lashes
During the study, participants reported 34% longer lashes! As I had already been using GrandeLash, I didn’t notice my lashes getting any longer (that is why I don’t have any before and after photos, unfortunately!), but they had already grown longer via GrandeLash. So this maintained that look, without any irritation. A win if you ask me.
Thicker Lashes
Participants reported 40% thicker lashes. Again, this comes back to how the formula prevents lash fallout!
Thicker, Fuller Brows
Participants reported 55% thicker eyebrows. I actually had to stop using this on my brows as it was making my brows TOO thick, actually… too long. (My eyebrow hairs grow very long, I have to trim them!).
How To Use The Augustinus Bader Eyebrow and Lash Serum
One really nice thing about this is that since it is non-irritating, you can use it morning and night and it’s totally fine to wear it under makeup. I personally prefer bedtime (My routine is that I apply it just after brushing my teeth, it’s a habit I created so that I never forget!). But if I do forget, fine! Just apply it in the morning.
Step 1: Wash your face
Make sure you’ve removed all eye makeup, etc. and apply to clean, dry skin. You want a clean, fresh canvas for the serum (also duh it’s bad to sleep in your eye makeup.
Step 2: Apply the product
The brush is pretty cool. The thicker side of the brush is meant for brows and the thinner side is meant for lashes. I drag the thin side along the lash line as carefully as possible. Pretend you are applying liquid eyeliner.
Step 3: Allow to dry
This is where reading before bedtime comes in. While the website says that it dries instantly, I still like to let it dry fully (at least 5-10 minutes) before hitting my pillow.
Is The Augustinus Bader Eyebrow and Lash Serum Worth It?
In my opinion, YES. The price point is not cheap, but it’s on par with other lash serums (and a value when you think about the upkeep of getting lash extensions). You’ll see results in as little as 4 weeks. You can buy it at Sephora, Amazon, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bluemercury, Violet Grey, and more!

Thanks for this review Grace! I too am a devotee of The Rich Cream (my super dry middle aged skin loves it like nothing else!) and have been a bit ‘meh’ on the other AB products I’ve tried (eye cream – not good enough for the price – and soothing cream, which I liked but just left my skin feeling tight after a couple hours), so I have been curious about the lash and brow serum. I started using GrandeLash on your recommendation, and people comment all the time on my lashes and ask if I get extensions!
One question about the AB lash/brow serum: Once I got the full effect from GrandeLash (and brow), I started only using it a few times a week, just to maintain the growth. Is that something I can do with AB, or does it still need to be used every day? Thanks!
I would maybe start with every night and see how you do. It’s hard to gauge!
What a great review, I loved your ingredients deep dive. When you say apply like liquid eyeliner I’m confirming: should I apply “on the lash hairs at the eyeline “or “on the eyeline skin right at the lash hairs”? Hopefully this makes sense. Hair versus skin same area. Newbie ๐
On the skin, right at the base of the hairs ๐
Thank you Grace! I actually watched a video on their website and they had a great blog post too. Of course, The Stripe is still my favorite one to read ๐
