Weekend Reading 6.20.20

plate from Scargo Pottery, Repousse flatware (family heirloom but I use it every day bc why not!?), book, plastic birks

Hi! How was your week? The photo above basically sums up what my weekend life looks like lately. I spend a lot of time sitting outside with a good book and something delicious to eat. I feel like my blood is mostly tomato and burrata at this point and I am GREAT with that – it’s the perfect summer meal. But this week was pretty bananas. I posted a raffle for the LGBT Center and we raised over $20,000. I had no idea that would happen. And my Amazon Drop collection launched and sold out. I’m so proud of both of those things… now I’m really looking forward to a cozy, book-filled weekend. I started The Vanishing Half last night and am invested. So whatever you’re up to, I hope it’s great! xo

If you are curious what “defund the police” means, Ben & Jerry’s (of all places – love them!) has a great breakdown.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about sheets and bedding lately, especially as it gets HOT. These are the best sheets I have owned (better than the really expensive fancy brands like Frette and Matteo IMO) and ultra cooling.

Jess did a really incredible post about anti-racism.

Loved this list of the best thrillers from The Everygirl. There are a few I haven’t read yet!

This is the best summer button down. I got two colors and am contemplating more.

Wowowow this Florida home is gorgeous.

BRB trying to understand how this eyelet dress is only $28!?

Why Juneteenth needs to be a national holiday. Also: check out this list of books!

The new Rifle face masks are SO cute.

I got this lightweight printed robe this week and it’s so perfect for summer. (And cute enough to wear outside drinking coffee. Take 15% off with code GRACE.

Loved Jacey’s fashion Q&A.

Kind of really want to switch out my dining chairs for these…. v. tempted!

What exactly is anti-racism?

Touch starvation is very real. I feel this deeply.

Such a pretty, so affordable straw bag.

Travel themed books by Black authors to help you virtually escape.

This $50 cobalt mini dress is v. similar to the Rhode one I wear all the time.

On advocating for social justice via art.

I am excited to try making my own hummus.

This $25 Target blouse could pass for Marimekko… I LOVE the print.

Loved seeing Liz’s bathroom makeover… it turned out so well!

These tie-dye socks are SO pretty!

This home renovation turned out SO well!

Really helpful gardening tips from a former plant killer.

Oh wow I definitely need these herb saving containers.

More good info for those following #PublishingPaidMe. I’ve been fascinated (and upset!) by this.

The perfect summer PJs at a great price.

I definitely want to make these summer cocktails!

Wow. That house in Tampa is about 5 minutes from my parents’ house. That’s a really cool neighborhood. And Florida homes definitely need to be preserved. The McMansions are taking over.

Hi Grace, WOW, the #PublishingPaidMe article was very informative. We are in a revolution and it’s about time! Really like the dining chairs too. I make my hummus all the time, very easy. I also make chimichurri or pesto a lot. I like to cook with fresh herbs and sometimes a bunch is too much. If it’s hanging around too long, in it goes. I keep my mini food processor on the counter top. Tahini keeps forever in the fridge. Another good one is white/cannelini bean dip. Just swap out the chickpeas for beans, maybe add some rosemary or thyme. Now I have to get to your book list and start reading……..I just ordered The Jemima Code and can’t wait!

P.S. The Kitchn did an article about the best way to store fresh herbs and it’s a good one. They tested several methods. Those cool containers are sold out 🙁

That home renovation in Los Angeles… WOW! Liz’s bathroom makeover is great, amazing what some paint and small touches can accomplish!

I hope you got some good quality reading time in today, I read The Vanishing Half last week and really enjoyed it. You inspired me to read Patsy, I’m about 75% done and you hit the nail on the head when you said that it’s a tough read, not because the writing isn’t fantastic, but because the content is just so sad. Next on my list is Homegoing.

I know I’ve said this before, but I’m still riding the high from your Amazon Drop collection and can’t wait to receive my order!!
