Weekend Reading, 5.31.25

Happy weekend. I hope it’s a good one. Spoleto fun continues over here: I saw Mavis Staples last night and have tickets to see Band of Horses tonight. Besides that, I’m just planning on a craft project with my niece, a swim, some reading, and the usual weekend things! Whatever you’re up to, I hope it’s wonderful. Enjoy a little time off. Xx

Love your style and writing… you have a bag charm on today’s feed… the OG is here https://www.tiffany.com/accessories/key-rings/elsa-peretti-bean-key-ring-19611884/ and since I believe you also love EP… wanted to share. I have it and wear it on a chain or cord (black, red, tan… ) around my neck but will hand off a bag next. Ty Ty. Enjoy your weekend.

Yes , I have thoughts and lots of them. They wander at times. My buying is mostly curtailed by necessity . I have bills and I live alone now with a closet full of clothes I don’t wear nearly enough. Besides my guy in an ALF. No feeling sorry for me. I’m friendly but not with too many people or noise in a room. I’m remembering back to my single mom days in my 30’s and 40’s and having to work. There was ladies night half price drinks and Friday night dinner and dancing afterwards in Amherst, Mass and I sure had a few hangovers. I’d limit paying for two drinks myself and then a guy paid if we were talking. I was never drunk and I thought nothing of driving home to the mountains late or staying with a friend overnight. I didn’t day drink. I worked and never thought about that. I did come home and cook and then go out. Brrrr. Years later when my very much grown up son died of liver failure , I don’t drink now. I have a love hate relationship with drinking . I loved the sweet Kahlua drinks. White Russians, Girl Scout Cookies and mint drinks. My Dad owned a Liqueur store but he didn’t drink. My mom loved a Whiskey sour at parties and Weddings. Was I addicted to Alcohol like Jeff? No. Buying stuff and bad relationships? Yes in the emotionally unavailable sense . My son was extremely bright and smart and handsome . I didn’t see that coming at all until it did. Besides wondering if it was my fault that I missed it and that’s why I don’t drink, I think it’s more that I needed a drink in shy social situations which I don’t have now. I take care of two sick people and a home . Something always breaks here and bills have to be paid . Drinking has been replaced by TV, reading, and the occasional spurge when Grace has on a great outfit or recommends a book. Did a wild girl get weird? I really don’t know? Pardon my wandering thoughts. Maybe I need a Substack. ?
