Weekend Reading 5.2.21

And just like that, it’s May and I have been a Charleston resident for a full month. Wow. This week, I got my second vaccination. The prospect of life going back to “normal” is almost too much to handle. I thought this article about post-vaccine inertia was a great, really thoughtful read. Unlike pretty much everyone I know I didn’t get as sick from the second shot as I did from the first one. No fever, just a sore throat and very very tired. I slept most of Friday and watched a lot of TV. I’m feeling so hopeful and optimistic. Starting to plan a few trips which feels surreal.

At the same time I have been glued to the news watching what is happening in India. It’s absolutely devastating. Yesterday I started a highlights on Instagram with several different fundraisers and ways to help. Please consider donating if you are able to help. Have a great Sunday, friends!

The people I know who actually had COVID got more sick from the first shot ( because their body was already familiar with the spike proteins and mounted an immune reaction). In New York, you could have had it even before lockdown and not even known it! So happy for you living your best life in Charleston. Fully vaccinated life seems so wonderful, but fragile if everyone doesn’t get on board with getting vaccinated!

It’s so interesting! I don’t think I had it, but I did lose my sense of smell (but not taste) early last April at the beginning of everything. I guess we’ll never know.
