Weekend Reading 2.19.22

Happy weekend! My boyfriend is here this weekend and we don’t have a whole lot planned but I do have two things on the agenda: impressing him with this coconut margarita (he is usually the one making our margaritas and is very good at it so the pressure is on) and going to both Xiao Bao Biscuit and Chubby Fish at some point (ever have favorite restaurants you just somehow forget about? That is me with both of these spots!) This was a nice week – the perfect mix of fun, family, and downtime. Whatever you are up to, I hope it’s great! Xx

Weekend Reading, 2.19.22

First, some big news: today only, GrandeLash is 30% off at Amazon! The only size on sale is the 6 month supply – usually $120, $84!) Read my review here!

7 habits leading to happiness in old age.

I loved Liz’s review of her favorite mom jeans, something I have a hard time shopping for!

All the best new releases over the next two weeks.

Can’t stop daydreaming about this little red dress (and where I’d wear it!).

8 Black history podcasts to add to your queue.

Love this top – the lower neckline keeps the collar from being too pilgrim-y!

Is this the age of anti-ambition?

Retinol basics!

This little green dress is so cute and just went on sale – it’s now only $22.

A giant congrats to Julia and Hannah on this gorgeous launch.

The fit of this swimsuit is just perfection. I have the solid black as well.

This broccoli soup recipe looks so good. The croutons! (Also: how to make better soups)

Jen rounded up some really, really beautiful rattan and raffia finds.

I rarely need a heavy coat these days but I can’t stop thinking about this one from Mango. Do I need it?

Lamenting the romcom:

Why can’t we just watch a fat girl fall in love without talking about her weight?

How chic are these candlesticks!? Want.

A little art for you… a preview of LA Frieze.

Can you even imagine being set up on dates by Candace Bushnell? Way to go, Hannah.

Speaking of Candace, loved this interview!

The print on this shirt dress is just pure fun. I love that it comes in extended sizes (including petites!).

Oh wow, I am now dying to visit The Sea Ranch. Spectacular architecture.

A very cute cozy cardigan.

Planning a trip? These are the friendliest cities!

Easy, healthy dinner recipes.

Just a very cute dress – save it for spring or wear it with tights and a blazer now.

Joanna compiled some gorgeous places to buy art online.

Black furniture designers and ceramicists to know!

Very into this little black dress – feel like the cut-outs are just enough to be sexy without revealing too much.

The best red lipstick looks of all time.

The best queer romance novels.

Loving these $39 raffia slides!

How cute is Dobby the Aardvark?

We will end with a really dreamy home tour.

Hi! This is always my favorite post. Each week, I look forward to enjoying it with my morning coffee. I’m not seeing the Grande Lash discount for some reason. When I click the link, it takes me to a listing with the normal, non-discounted prices. Do I need a code or something? Thank you!!

You are absolutely right – not sure what is happening. I am frustrated, it’s supposed to be today! I have emailed the brand.

The Sea Lodge looks amazing! I’m not going to click on the room rate button quite yet so I can sustain the fantasy that I’ll stay there some day. Another great hotel that is up the coast and less expensive is the Wildflower Boutique Hotel in Point Arena.

That 7 habits article is great!! As someone who has observed the happy well (my parents retired at 55, have dogs, hobbies- stained glass. My grandma lives solo at 92 w her 2 dogs, she reads.) And the sad sick {anyone in long term care/most hospital pts I’ve met over 80} first hand… Ageism is strong still. The difference in socially supported patients and … Lonely ones are vast, oft coincides w income level too however.

Also like your queer romance link– in middle school /high school I kept accidentally checking out same sex romance. Samantha Shannon has a queer sci Fi romance book series coming. Her Bone Season series IS INCREDIBLE, 3 MORE BOOKS ARE COMING.

As usual great weekend blog and I hope you have a wonderful time with your boyfriend. I was reading the article about Happiness as you get older because one day I’m young and doing much on a lesser scale than you do and now I’m much much older. Along the way I’ve had love, lost love, experienced tragic losses and found my little fixes to feel better which I’ve mostly stopped due to lack of places to safely go. The interesting thing was about alcohol abuse in older people . I was certainly not a teetotaler, far from it in my younger days or a fine wine expert. My BIL was and had a great wine cellar. My Dad had owned a very popular Liquor store in town . He oddly did not drink. Until I found out my son had a drinking problem that ended in a fatal loss to a wonderful , bright and handsome young man , I didn’t think about it . Now reading that article I realize I don’t take even one relaxing cocktail at all. There’s no danger in me drinking for depression but there is danger in not being able to relax from my own pressures of life . I’ve given up goals and taken care of everything and everyone but me because of my partners illness. I’ve become COVID phobic too. I need to find my own bliss and happiness so the rest of my life isn’t just taking care of my family and depriving myself and get back to who I was . Thanks so much for the article .
