Weekend Reading 1.30.21.

How was your week? If I am being totally honest, I have been feeling a little bit of seasonal depression coming on. It’s COLD and I have been in this situation before and I know that it’s because I’ve been bad about getting outside. It’s pretty amazing how much a little bit of sunshine helps. So I have been making sure I get outdoors, even if I have to wear a thousand layers. I also started taking a Vitamin D supplement and bought a happy light (this one had rave reviews in the Facebook group) so we’ll see if those things help.

In other news, I took Robin Roberts’ masterclass on effective communication. I really enjoyed it (and it was pretty quick, just a couple hours total – I updated my Masterclass review with more on that, if you’re interested!). I also started Lupin on Netflix, which is truly EXCELLENT. My parents are watching it (they’re on my Netflix account) and I got curious and got so sucked in. I can’t recommend it enough. Whatever you are up to this weekend, I hope it is great. Also, STAY WARM.

Great list! Thanks for sharing the Cup of Jo article, as I’m still so stuck on what to do. It’s helpful to read many perspectives.

Heart bursting that you read and wanted to share the Cheryl Strayed essay. It’s something special. She has a collection of essays called Tiny Beautiful Things that I come back to over and over again.

Wowwwww, especially thought-provoking links this week. I don’t think I’ve ever read something Cheryl Strayed wrote and not felt gutted. Same with the Tail End post. (Though my takeaway from that is also to eat more pizza :))

My doctor recommended Vitamin D testing levels and I was l-o-w despite living in sunny California! I am excited to take a supplement guided by numbers rather than a sense that it’ll do me some good. I ordered from Nordic Naturals, which I’ve loved for awhile. They make Omega-3 oil from fish prioritized for supplements rather than using discards that are a few days older and more prone to be rancid.

I’m childless by design, I guess — “unexplained fertility” was my diagnosis — but because I didn’t pursue advanced treatments or adoption (the odds were not good for my age, adoption is a lot of $$) people seem to think I chose not to have kids.

Either way, I’m 48 without kids and my life is not the loveless hole of despair that everyone thinks. It’s fine!

Thanks for sharing that! I think there are a lot of ways to get love and fulfillment that don’t necessarily involve babies. 🙂
