This Weeks Good Things 11.30.20

Happy Monday. Can you believe that today is the last day of November? I kinda can’t get over that – time has gone so slowly but also so fast. And I’ve now been in Charleston for a full week.

My weekend was pretty boring, to be honest, but that is not a bad thing. It was really nice after the stress of traveling and then getting settled in a new city. It was rainy and gross here so I watched a lot of TV (like a lot a lot, a potentially embarrassing amount… I got really into Queer Eye and watched the entire new season of Virgin River, amongst other things). Then I saw my mom for a walk and that was about it! (I still can’t get over the fact that we can even just meet for walks, it’s kind of just the best thing ever.)

I’m definitely starting to feel more at home in the cottage – for the first four or five nights I barely slept and the cat was going crazy and now we are both getting into a better routine. I love my neighborhood so much. I’m right by Colonial Lake and when it is nice out I just walk and walk and walk! I hope you had a great weekend!

Virgin River, Season 2

It’s baffling to me how much I love this show. I wasn’t into Gilmore Girls or Hart of Dixie, and I generally don’t like “slower” TV shows about small towns, or shows where nothing really happens – I tend to pick shows about lawyers, the FBI, or spies – lolz. But I love this one so much. It’s really soothing? This season was a little less soothing (gah! I need to talk to someone about THAT ENDING!!!), but so good. And you know I love an old people romance (there is a great one this season). I just really like this show. I watched the entire season Saturday night and Sunday day and am now devastated that I have to wait an entire year for the next one!

Sam Jablon

You know I love a fun new art discovery, and these paintings feel particularly relevant right now.. CHAOS! DON’T PANIC! My friend Rob is doing a show (at his gallery in Kent, CT if you’re in the area) with Sam Jablon and has been posting a ton of Sam Jablon’s work to his gallery’s instagram and I am very very much into all of it. Follow Sam on instagram right this way, and learn more about him in this article.

Holst & Lee at Anthropologie

I am SO proud and thrilled for my friend Natalie (one of my best friends in the world), as she is now carried at Anthropologie! This is such a huge deal and she is so talented. She makes the most gorgeous jewelry – they picked up a bunch of her amazing rope pieces. If you want more of her work, check out her new website, which looks absolutely beautiful.

Cute Kids Stuff at Amazon!

I was lucky enough to get to preview the Cyber Monday sale offerings today at Amazon and as I scrolled through the merch I realized there wasn’t a ton I wanted or needed but there sure is a lot I want for my nephews and niece. So here are some v v cute kids picks. I also have a whole “aunt life” section in my Amazon shop, but these items are CUTE. My niece Zoe absolutely “needs” this metallic puffer and maybe this cozy pink fleece too. Also, death by mini lumberjack cuteness.

Chappywrap Holiday Blankets

You know how much I looove my Chappywrap blankets and the holiday styles are so cute! They very nicely sent me this stripe blanket to Charleston and I feel so much more at home with it (back in BK I have three and am pretty much always under a Chappy at all times!) I love this pines and needles pattern, too. For more on why I love the blanket so much, read this blog post! PS – ending today, you can take 10% off at Chappywrap with code BLACKFRIDAY10

Grace! I feel the same way about Virgin River – I can’t figure out why I love it so much but I do! I finished season 2 on Saturday Then started rewatching season 1 yesterday- so sad we have to wait another year for season 3 Also, doesn’t hurt that Jack is easy on the eyes . I selected The Star-Crossed of Tuscany as my November Book of the Month and loved it!! Such a beautifully written story.

I, also, wanted to tell you I’m now the proud owner of the Always pan, a Theragun, and am asking for the green plaid Chappywrap for Christmas! To say I have been influenced by you is an understatement

Oh my gosh that makes me so happy!!!! Three of my absolute favorite things. And yesssss Jack is v v easy on the eyes. I love him! And her! I just love the show! So not my usual thing but it’s just wonderful.

I’m here for the Virgin River content. I binged season 2 this weekend and… wow! They better have season 3 secured to end like that. I think the only flaw in the show is Hope. Idk if it’s the character or what but I feel like I either can’t stand the character or she isn’t the right actress for the role. She just has a tinge too much crazy for my liking.

    • grace at the stripe says 11.30.20

RIGHT? I mean it must be. I can’t believe we have to wait so long for a new season now! I can see what you mean about Hope, but I love her romance with Doc so let her bits of crazy slide!

      • Kate says 11.30.20

A year is way too long but I’m invested. I think the show has it all (except diversity which is sorely lacking). It has the romance, the crime, and the medical drama. It’s a good mix of all of the good genres.

Not sure if this type of book is your cup of tea, but the Virgin River TV show is based on a series of books by Robyn Carr – and there are like 20+ books in the series! Of course there end up being some major differences between the books and the TV series, but I enjoy the books and they might keep some of y’all busy until the next season comes out. 🙂

I had no idea it was a book til a few days ago! Will be honest, I probably won’t read them but maybe I will get desperate as I wait for season 3 – you never know!!!!!

  5. Stacy says 11.30.20

I also watched the full S2 of Virgin River this weekend and THE ENDING!!! Its all I can think about. How will we wait a year for S3?!

Okay so I was totally waiting for this post because I have things to say about Virgin River (LOL). SO I’ve watched both Gilmore Girls and Hart of Dixie; love Gilmore Girls and pushed myself through Hart of Dixie, which was too cheeky and “meh” for me. BUT did you know – Doc from Virgin River was ALSO Dr. Breeland from Hart of Dixie?? My boyfriend has seen me watch the shows and he was like you know that is the same actor, basically playing the same character in two different shows? My mind was blown. Anyways, was super excited for Virgin River to come back and I’m halfway through the season. From the sounds of it, we can expect a season 3!

Loving the dispatches from Charleston, Grace! Did you watch Sweet Magnolias on Netflix. It’s another small town fantasy series that is so good! It will make you want to have a margarita night with your friends though. Soon — let’s hope!

  8. Laura says 11.30.20

Hey! I realized from this post that you brought your sweet kitty! Any travel tips? We have two and want to take them on a planned trip in May to Cape Cod as we plan to be there the whole month, but one hates the car! Trying to figure out how to make it less stressful for her and us!

    • grace at the stripe says 12.1.20

Honestly, he’s just pretty docile and I’ve been traveling with him since he was a baby. He doesn’t mind the car and just sits quietly under the airplane seat. I’m not really a great resource here but I would def recommend talking to your vet!

I bought my niece a metallic parka when she was a toddler and we called it her J Lo coat – it was fabulous! She always got a lot of compliments on it.

Hope on Virgin River is killing us! Hopefully she gets a grip on herself before the end of the season. I love Doc so I will put up with her. I don’t know why I love this show but I do.

Love the Charleston pics on Instagram! It looks so peaceful and relaxing. Enjoy!

    • grace at the stripe says 12.1.20

That’s exactly what we all say – we dont’ know why we like it but we do!!!! I know, Hope redeems herself a bit in the end but she was driving me bonkers too!
