Our Favorite Bags for Fall.

Favorite Bags for Fall

When I lived in New York, I would freak out over big sweaters, coats, great boots. Here in Charleston, it is still so warm. And I love the warm weather but I won’t be wearing my “fall” clothes until November. These days, I get really excited about bags. Today, Carly and I are each sharing our personal favorites.

Favorite bags for fall.

A reader asked me if I could only have one bag for fall, what would it be. I had to think for a bit but I think it would be the Khaite Augustina bag. It’s boho (a big trend), but it’s still got a nice bit of structure. I wear mine crossbody style and it feels very streamlined and sleek. I have it in the hazelnut pebbled leather but if I were buying it right now, I’d go with mud suede as this is really shaping up to be the season of suede. This bag is a splurge but fear not! If you are on more of a budget (even if you aren’t on a budget, it’s just a great bag!), get this suede Madewell bag (just restocked, hurry before it sells out again!) instead. This bag is perfect and super similar to the Khaite. I personally own both! Madewell is doing a fantastic job this season.

Grace’s Bags

Grace: Handbags and jewelry are where I tend to invest the most and I definitely splurged a bit this summer. I bought the Metier Cala tote to have a larger tote for running around that wasn’t suede (my other go-to tote is the Metier market bag in suede but that’s more of a fall bag — I’ll be breaking her back out soon!). And I touched on the Khaite & Madwell boho bags above but will be getting a lot of wear out of both.

One thing that has changed is that I haven’t really been wearing my Chanel bags. I still love them and will break out a little crossbody or clutch for a party; I just haven’t been drawn to them the way I used to be, especially for everyday wear. I can’t put my finger on exactly what’s changed. They’re a classic and not out of style but right now they just feel maybe a bit flashy? (For the record, I would never sell them, they are a classic! We are just taking a break). In their place, I’ve been favoring more minimal look. Great bags with sumptuous textures (fabric, suede, textured leather) and special hardware. Savette, Demellier, Little Lifner… brands like that! This Savette and this Demellier (two of my favorite handbag brands right now) are great examples. I’m curious if others are feeling the same way re: Chanel, let me know in the comments!

Carly’s Bags

Carly: I think the stars have aligned for me this season. Brown AND suede are both having major moments? Perfect. Only picking 12 bags for this roundup was a challenge! We are starting off strong with my DREAM bag: this ludicrously capacious Miu Miu tote is everywhere. I wouldn’t even know where to begin to explain everything I admire about this bag, and I know the entirety of the fashion world agrees.

I’m also in love with this bowling bag (you guessed it, also in suede). There’s something to be said about being able to effortlessly incorporate an off-white accessory into the cooler seasons, and this bag is definitely the perfect match. My final shoutout has to go to this Sonya Lee shoulder bag. It looks extremely similar to Grace’s Loewe puzzle bag, and inspired me to walk away with this similar mini. The silhouette is petite and just everything I’ve been looking for in a nighttime accessory.

Not feeling the same way about Chanel. Recently bought the most amazing white crochet bag with gold hardware for summer. Feels low key, not flashy at all.

I have been feeling the same about my Chanel bags! I don’t sell them because their value keeps increasing but I hardly ever reach for them.

I’ve been investing more in jewelry than in handbags lately and see that trend continuing at least for now.

I got it! The Madewell Essential Suede Hobo. I had to watch for that restock on Shopbop like it was the lottery! There was ONE!!! It’s perfect !!! Yes, I do love it. Perfect size and hugs the body so it doesn’t look big at all. I think the smaller leather hobo bag in black is a better fit on the Madewell site for anyone looking at the larger black leather hobo on Shopbop . I wish they made the smaller leather it in the lighter color like your leather hobo bag. I love that hobo but that would be a luxury item for me. Beautiful bag on you. Silly how a bag arriving can make me smile . I have a lot of bags . What can I say, I’m a collector. lol
