The Best Exfoliating Cloth Ever.

The Best Exfoliating cloth Ever | Luv Scrub Mesh Body Exfoliator Review

This post originally appeared this summer, but as we have Luv Scrob founder Caroline Owusu-Ansah on our podcast today (!!!) I wanted to bump it up. Caroline’s story is amazing. It was really fun to hear how she took s product she knew and loved and grew up using (these exfoliating cloths are a West African tradition) and built a business! She also gives a TON of practical business advice that I think anyone looking to start their own product can really benefit from.

The Luv Scrub is my FAV and I still get DM’s probably at least once a week telling me how much YOU love it! It’s the best  thing ever, it’s really affordable, and it makes SUCH a difference… your smoothest skin ever.

The Best Exfoliating Mesh cloth Ever

Last week, as I worked on my round-up of Black-owned businesses to support, I did a little shopping. Okay, a lot of shopping, thinly disguised as “research.” One of the products I ordered was Luv Scrub’s mesh body exfoliator (I went with the color “Sunset” which is basically a slightly darker version of Millennial Pink – they have five colors, something for everyone, even black for all you true minimalists). I have to be honest, of everything I ordered, this was probably the item I was least excited about. But I knew I’d use it, I liked the under $20 price point, and I thought it would make a great item to suggest for future gift guide roundups. But how excited can you really truly be about a shower cloth!?

Luv Scrub Mesh Body Exfoliator Review

Well. I’m here to tell you you should be VERY excited about this particular mesh cloth. It is absolutely, unequivocally, one of the best purchases I’ve made in recent months. This mesh cloth is EXCELLENT. I promise I’m not exaggerating. It is hands down, the nicest mesh cloth / loofah / body exfoliating thingamajig I have EVER tried. EVER. I’ve tried many a mesh mesh cloth before (and love them!) but this one is different. First of all (I tried to capture the texture as best I could below), it isn’t a plastic cloth. Nor is it one of those plastic poufs you probably had in college. It’s made from 100% nylon but not scratchy or plastic-y nylon. It’s almost silky to the touch but because it’s mesh and still textured.

To use it, just squeeze a little bit of shower gel (maybe a teaspoon) and LATHER UP, gently exfoliating all over. Skin will be clean and exfoliated in just a couple minutes. When you’re done, just let it air dry… I usually fold mine in half, squeeze it out, and let it air dry over the faucet.

It does an incredible job exfoliating. I love it.

And YES – it’s great for keratosis pilaris (KP) too.. sloughing away dead skin cells so those pesky little bumps can’t form. Just soft, smooth skin.

It works with whatever body wash you choose to use into a tremendous lather, you can ball it up and use it like a sponge, or stretch it out (it’s 50″ long!) to get your back. (It’s great for backne, too.) I can’t say enough good things about this thing. Do yourself a favor and go get one… (and maybe order a couple for next time you need a gift… as I suspected, it’s the perfect gift!). It leaves skin feeling amazing – silky and SMOOTH. It’s also VERY pretty. It will look nice in your shower. I hate how much I care about that but I do. I care. So I want the things in my shower to look nice but also make me look nice. This accomplishes both.

Obviously $18 is a lot of money to spend for something like this but I rationalize it as you’re supporting a great small business, it lasts 18 months, and it looks really pretty in your bathroom.

PS – I shot it with my Necessaire body wash which besides being v. photogenic is my most favorite body wash of all time and I’m so happy they’re sold at Sephora now. Eucalyptus is my personal fav (not pictured, I’m working my way through the Bergamot!) but every scent they make is heavenly. These two products together = your dreamiest shower ever but you can obviously use any body wash. And when you use a wash cloth like this, you can definitely use less product.

Hey, sometimes it’s the little things in life. I’m ordering one. By the time it gets here, my feet should be falling off thanks to Baby Foot. Theme of the week: exfoliation.

Oh this would be excellent for sloughing off all the Baby foot when you shower. Great theme 😉 xo

I used to use a body washcloth religiously but I’ve gotten lazy… needless to say, my body is in dire need of exfoliating, lol! This washcloth sounds great! 🙂

Hi Grace, what do you think about using this on your face too? Would it be too rough? Thanks!

    6.10.20 Reply
    • grace at the stripe:

I would not use this on my face. The skin on your face is much more fragile! I recommend using a microfiber washcloth on your face… and when you want to exfoliate use scrubs or acids made specifically for your face!

I am SO intrigued! I love a good washcloth and I also appreciate feeling exfoliated. My one question is… how do you store it in your shower? My loofa can hang on a hook, and a washcloth can drape over my towel bar, but since this is so long, I’m just wondering where you put it? Or do you wash it between every use?

    6.10.20 Reply
    • grace at the stripe:

      Hi Lynn-Holly,
I rinse it out after I use it, and then I just fold it in half and drape it over the bathtub faucet to dry. If it’s damp and not soaking, fine to also hang on the side of the tub to dry.

      6.10.20 Reply
      • grace at the stripe:

(I think either of those options – hook or towel bar would be fine, just fold it, it’s lightweight mesh!)

Ohhh I love that you’ve discovered this as I’ve been using it for a few years now ( not one from this brand but it’s called an “African Body Exfoliation Sponge” otherwise) and always rave to anyone who’d listen about just how it great it is.
