Styling Fall’s Best Shoes.

How to Style Fall's Best Shoes

Last week, Carly and I shared our top shoe picks for the season. Today: how to wear them. As always, I hope this post inspires you to take things you already have and wear them differently. In particular for me, I like wearing my more summery bags (my canvas Demellier, my straw Sezane) with colder weather looks. It feels very fresh and lets me wait a little longer to put those styles away.

As an aside I love these red pants with my creamy mary janes. This combination works really well for me: a pant that has a bit of drape to it plus a sweet little mary jane. (Up top I just wore a striped tee).

The Suede Mule

We had to include a dress look! I bought this Dôen dress the day it dropped and I love it so much. I’ve always been a fan of toile but the burgundy color makes it feel extra special. And I cannot stop gushing about this new petite size of my favorite Dorsey earrings. They are perfect for just a touch of everyday glamour. (I love the larger size too but those are more of a dinner or party kind of earring if that makes sense!).

The Chelsea Boot

I LOVE this look. Brown is a key color for fall and it pairs so well with other neutrals (especially greys and tans). This look feels chic chic chic and very of the moment. I’m currently planning my outfits for a trip to New York and this is exactly what I want to wear. I’ve ordered the pants (a Carly find, she is a bad influence!) and while they might very well look terrible on me, I have a million ideas for how to style them. Also, I’ve said this before but I’ve been buying all my belts at Madewell. This one is absolutely perfect; the perfect touch of brown suede.

The Mary Jane Flat

An easy, effortless look. Tuck the shirt into the skirt, throw the sweater over your shoulders, add your mary janes. This is the perfect easy everyday look and feels a little more casual-cool than opting for a dress. I have a goal of wearing more skirts and separates and this look is a great starting place. Also I cannot say enough good things about these ultra juicy lip balms. I started with the cherry and ordered two more. LOVE!

PS – Can’t recommend these buttery ballet flats enough. The brand kindly offered gifting and Carly chose the black whereas I went with the cream. They are perfect and a great price.

The Red Sneaker

Red remains a key player this season. I am so happy about this! I am definitely more of a dresses girl but love this sportier look. I can’t wait to wear my red sweaters, socks, and other accessories. This look is a favorite (and probably very easy to recreate with pieces you already own). Classic stripes, one of my new favorite pairs of jeans (size down!), pops of red. I will tell you that I agonized over which socks to include (classic white? black? tonal red), so I texted Carly and she recommended the cream.

In sock-related news, Carly is working on a big socks post for Substack to help all of us confused millennials navigate the latest socks trends.

The Penny Loafer

In a sea of more trendy silhouettes and outfits, it makes me happy to see something so classic. I love this sweater jacket and like that it is a little more relaxed than some of the other lady jackets out there. I bought these exact penny loafers so you’ll be seeing quite a bit of them. I really like the idea of wearing them with lighter wash denim; it’s unexpected without being overly trendy.

Grace, I have to say I am absolutely loving these types of posts. I feel like everyone can relate that it’s hard to dress ourselves post pandemic with all the changing styles. I find it especially hard as I’ve been pregnant/ post Partum/ pregnant again. These posts are such good inspiration as I feel clueless how to dress myself!!! Thank you!!

This is absolutely perfect! I got a pair of red mary janes during the Nordstrom sale and got so much outfit inspiration from this post. I have worked from home for 8 years and have kids but am ready to start feeling put together again.
    THANK YOU!!!

Hey Grace! Loved this post 🙂 For the Kule striped shirt — are they TTS or should we size up if we don’t love things too clingy? Thanks!
