How to Get The Smoothest Legs Ever.

BIC Smooth Legs 1

We are now into the thick of summer, where, to put it bluntly, I want to wear as little clothing as possible. It’s hot out there!!! Today, as a part of my summer collaboration with BIC® Soleil Shine®, I wanted to share a few tips and tricks for getting skin as smooth as possible. Right now, my biggest beauty concern is smooth skin. It’s too hot to wear much makeup, so my focus has shifted to getting skin ultra smooth and soft.

First and foremost, the best thing you can do is to wait a little bit before exfoliating or shaving. By exposing hair to warm water for just five minutes before shaving, you will soften the hair… making it easier to remove and helping to prevent razor burn. I like to get into the shower, wash my face, shampoo my hair, exfoliate my body all over with a washcloth and shower gel (besides making shaving easier, this also helps to prevent ingrown hairs), and then shave my legs. By that point, any hair has softened and my skin is good and ready for a shave.

Also: the best time to shave is at night. Besides removing unwanted hair, shaving also removes the superficial layer of skin (a good thing). Shaving at night will give your skin more time to recover and can help reduce irritation.

From there, apply a shaving gel and shave in the direction of hair growth, using a clean, sharp razor. I love BIC® Soleil Shine® Razors as they have five (flexible) blades  and a Soothing Moisture Strip® which enhances glide… they get my legs ultra-smooth. Since they are disposable, I’ll carry an extra razor in both my travel bag  and gym bag… it’s so much nicer than the ones my gym carries. Keep in mind that the duller the razor, the more likely you are to cut yourself. It sounds counter-intuitive, but a blunter blade actually causes more irritation. The best indicator is that when you need to apply more pressure to your razor to get the perfect shave, that’s when you know it is time to change the blade. (This is usually after about 4 uses).

A few more shaving tips and tricks:

  • If you get an ingrown hair, don’t (ever!) pick it. Dab gently with an over the counter cortisone cream twice a day for a week.
  • Underarm hair grows in different directions… try shaving in multiple directions (up to down, left to right) to get it from every angle.
  • For smooth knees (this was a game changer for me as I always miss my knees!) sit down in the bathtub and bend your knees to stretch out the skin.

Afterwards, be sure to apply a soothing moisturizer. It leaves my legs silky, smooth, and ultra-hydrated.

I like that you do beauty posts that are step-by-step in terms of usage. Plus, you always talk about the benefits of each product and you are always being informative in a way that is relatable to peoples’ lives … like as opposed to just saying, “Wow, I love this product. Use it.” Done.
