This was a fun week of outfits as I was in New York for part of it and had a bunch of events and fun things going on… what a stark contrast to just a year ago. It feels really good to get back in the swing of things, though I will add… small talk is hard! I went to two parties this past week: an event for work where I barely knew anyone and then an engagement party in New York. I need to exercise those social muscles and get better at talking to strangers!!!! From talking to friends it seems we are all in that boat: small talk is an art, it’s something that takes practice, and we are all very much out of practice. Time to get back into social shape!
I’m so glad you like seeing these, it was fun to bring this column back – you can peruse last week’s outfit diary right this way!
Everything I Wore Last Week
Monday
Becca was in town! We went to the pool during the day. I wore this swimsuit and pareo (gifted) from Tanya Taylor’s new swim collection. Took my usual size (medium) in the swim). At night we went to Basic Kitchen for dinner and then had drinks on the roof of The Restoration Hotel. I wore this dress from my Amazon collection, this wonderfully inexpensive Amazon belt, and my leopard Loeffler slides.
Tuesday
Went for a walk with my mom to see some art in Marion Square. Wore this (old) Zimmermann dress, my beloved plastic Birks (they’re basically like socially acceptable crocs; read my “review” of them in this blog post), and these Romy Studio earrings.
Wednesday
Went to dinner at 167 Raw (fav lobster roll!) with two friends. Wore my Christopher John Rogers for Target Dress + Holst & Lee Dinosaur Earrings and my go-to gold Loeffler Randall sandals.
Thursday
Stopped by a party for Garden & Gun magazine. This is a random sidebar BUT I got some interesting questions (no, I am not suddenly a gun person, lolz) about this magazine in my DMs. G&G is kinda like Southern Living – it’s a chic lifestyle magazine. I personally would have named it something different (maybe they’ll rebrand at some point) but I like the magazine a lot. It’s founded by Rebecca Darwin, who was actually the first female publisher of The New Yorker. The party was at her beautiful home. I really love that the magazine puts such an emphasis on small makers and Southern designers. After the event my friend Natalie went to Bin 152 – my fav wine bar. I wore the Anthropologie eyelet dress (again haha), this fun heart purse, my dinosaur earrings, and these leopard slides!
These dinosaur earrings just make me the happiest!!!!
Friday
Out and about in New York! My friends and I went to Dante in the West Village and then Bemelman’s (so happy they’ve reopened – it’s hands down one of my top 5 spots in New York). I wore this dress (wearing a 6) and my gold Loeffler Randall sandals.
Saturday
My second and last night in New York. Went to dinner with a girlfriend at Lil Frankies (lemon pasta magic!) and then two dear friends’ engagement party! I was bad at taking photos but I did snap this selfie. And I wore the most magical rainbow Missoni dress (I bought this on The Outnet over the winter – originally I thought I’d wear it for my 40th birthday, maybe I still will). I will say that The Outnet and The RealReal are the best places to grab Missoni for less, and that I go up one dress size in Missoni – their pieces are stretchy but you (or at least I) don’t want stretch jersey stripes to be tight. Mine is floor length and is totally sold out but they also have two shorter versions in a couple sizes here and here. My necklace is Retrouvai.

You look amazing, Grace! Your Friday dress is my favourite! ❤️✨

Thank you!
Grace – you’ve been inspiring me to wear colorful dresses like you! If we are thinking logistics, flowy dresses are actually the next most comfy option after sweats, ha! I got dolled up for dinner with friends last night (and even wore earrings). It was almost back to normal and it was glorious.
Couldn’t agree more! And it is SO hot here that jeans are just not an option… I’ve lived here for two months and have maybe worn them once. And besides, getting dressed up again just feels so good!
I love that Zimmerman dress! So beautiful!
Thank you!
I love the Zimmerman dress too! It was also nice to see the blue floral Target dress on you as well. The cut looks so different on the model on the website.
Thanks!
I’m so obsessed with that Missoni dress..I was hoping you’d do an outfit post that would include it! Seriously considering the short version for my 40th now instead of Farm Rio!
It’s so good!!!! I love it so much. The short would be so fun 🙂
Garden & Gun is a fabulous magazine with beautifully-written and researched articles about every aspect of life in the South and all her people. While I would personally prefer to live in a world with no guns at all, the titular “Gun” represents responsible hunting and hand-crafted antique firearm collecting. For more progressive take on Southern lifestyles with equally gorgeous articles, check out The Bitter Southerner.
Thank you for chiming in. I got some really angry DMs from folks that perhaps weren’t familiar with the magazine. I will check out the Bitter Southerner.
I love that your brought back these posts! They are both style inspiration and a good peek at the behind the scenes and everyday life, which is nice 🙂 You really inspire me to wear happy, fun and slightly “whimsical” clothes and that has made getting dressed for the day a fun experience 🙂

Thank you so much!
You look happier and glow-ier than I’ve seen in years. I think your new hometown is agreeing with you!
That’s so nice, thank you!
