Shearling + Pony Hair

I talk about texture a lot (best way to keep a more neutral outfit interesting!!!). Right now, shearling and pony hair are two of my personal favorites. Look at the above outfit: if I were wearing a simple wool jacket, it would not have the same oomph. It’s all about interesting textures. This coat is sold out pretty much everywhere now Hampden still has it in a 40/8, which is what I am wearing! Styling note! In a recent newsletter, Leandra talked about wearing her collarless jackets almost as a top. And as a part of that, she wore her necklaces over her coat. It’s such a small tweak but I really love it. I layered just one chunky necklace over my own jacket, but Leandra really mixes things up–styling longer layers, a few necklaces at a time, etc.

We are back with our biweekly edit of under-$200 favorites. So many great pieces to love right now. Travel Essentials Edit

I am pretty particular about my luggage and travel pieces simply because I (and Delta) can be hard on them. Four years ago, I splurged on Rimowa’s cabin carry-on and checked baggage. The carry-on remains my favorite small roller (I feel so polished carrying it, that never gets old!!), but the larger one got destroyed. I would not recommend aluminum bags if you are checking. It has significant dents and distortions, and I’ve had a corner piece detach twice now. Rimowa is very good about repairs, but it’s just not worth the hassle. When I am checking a bag now, it’s almost always this larger-sized roller from Antler. Extremely durable and still in great shape after numerous trips.

Colorful Suede

Over the past couple of seasons, I’ve really fallen in love with suede. I really like it as a third texture. When getting dressed, I think that mixing three textures together (pick your poison: suede, silk/satin, leather, velvet, or wool) can really elevate an outfit. In the look above, I’m mixing silk, leather, and suede, and love the look. The key is to wear just one suede piece at a time (unless you’re going for a matching set). In the past, I’ve stuck to a more neutral palette (see my suede staples!), but as the weather warms up ever so slightly, I have been crushing on more colorful pieces.
