An outfit post! I know. Remember when blogs were mostly just outfit posts? These days I put my outfits on Instagram and keep the blog to more lifestyle stuff but today we’re changing things up a little because I really liked my outfit last week and wanted to break it down in a little more depth, as I think this makes for a great outfit formula when you aren’t sure what to wear and I have more to say about it than we can just accomplish via Instagram. And since a lot of what I am wearing is from previous seasons, I’ve found similar items for each of those.

First thing’s first: the coat!

Sadly this coat came from Topshop either last year or the year before. It’s a good one. I will say that it’s not particularly warm, but it’s a perfect topper. I love a long lean menswear type of coat. I’ve made you a little widget with some good coat ideas below so definitely scroll through that but I would say this one from Reformation looks most similar, or this houndstooth one! This coat is more of a splurge but I love it. This coat is great too, though only available in a size L.

Also: while I cannot speak to the quality (I may order it just to see?) this Amazon coat looks pretty great.  Jacey wore it recently and I trust her recs. This one is very cute too.

Next you will need a good tunic sweater.

Mine is from Eileen Fisher (from last year) and I swear by her tunics. Just size down a bunch… I am usually a small or XS in her pieces. Her tunic sweaters can be pricy (so worth it; her pieces are built to last) but right Nordstrom Rack and Off Fifth are great places to search. Love this one and this one. And for something that same pretty sable brown color I love this one from Vince.

And of course we need to talk about the Spanx faux leather leggings. I have a lot to say about these!

In fact, I have several pairs of these. I always buy a pair or two at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. And I often get asked if you should size up and I personally do not size up. But I am generally between a size small and medium so the medium is perfect. They are definitely tight but you want them to be tight, they’re leggings. I love these because they’re ultra long. They bunch up a little around the ankles, which I like. I am 5’8, though. If you are 5’4 or under or just have short legs I would say to get the petite version. They come in regular, petite, and plus sizes right this way. A wardrobe staple for sure.

Discover Night mask

Two last little details.

First, a mask!

Because duh, of course we are all wearing masks right now. The Discover Night one is one of my favorites. It’s made from 100% Mulberry Silk and won’t break you out. It comes in a ton of pretty colors, and if you use our podcast code BOP20 you can take 20% off.

Second, my boots!

I intentionally paired my black leggings with brown boots and loved the look. The ones I am wearing are Loeffler Randall. I love them so much and they are incredibly comfortable. For something less expensive I think this pair from Sam Edelman is very cute (I can’t personally speak to the quality or fit but have had a lot of luck with Sam Edelman over the years) and I love this pair too.

Looooove this outfit so much!! I got the Spanx leggings last year and am so so obsessed with them (personal sizing rec, I’m always an xs but needed a small in these!). Have started getting more into tunic type tops and bigger sweaters so this makes me very happy, how could you not be when you’re cosy but also look so good ‍♀️

    Love this whole look!

This might sound a bit weird, but I have a pair of the spank faux leather leggings (I’m 5’3” and got the petite so def recommend doing that if you’re shorter like me!) but I feel like mine just don’t look as leathery. I see them on people IRL and in photos and they always just look more like leather! Is that just me?? Or my leggings?? Or is it just the angle when you’re wearing them/ see them in the mirror? Haha I do like them but was a little sad they didn’t seem to be as leathery looking as I’ve seen on other people.

Hey Christina, Weird! Mine look like they look in the photos. Maybe you got a bad pair? Of course they’re not real leather so they’re not going to look fully leathery but the photos here do them proper justice. Wish I could be more helpful here… maybe try reaching out to Spanx’s customer service team.

It’s nice when an outfit post is actually refreshing rather that ugh-more clothes! I love this look and think it’s a nice compromise for dressing up to go out and staying comfortable. For the record, I’m loving that influencers are venturing more into home decor, wellness, food, games, books, art, etc. I was clothes shopping too much before the pandemic and it’s nice to take a break and focus on lifestyle. Thank you!

Love this outfit! What is the fit like with the Loeffler Randall boots? I usually size up half a size for a more comfortable fit and thick socks, but wondering if they run big.

Hi Stephanie, they are true to size! Though I always get my regular size at LR, and I know a lot of people size up there. So maybe just do what you always do!!!
