Mara Hoffman Wrap Coat 1

This is my favorite coat. It’s Mara Hoffman, bought five years ago from Intermix. When I bought it, I had no business buying it – it was well out of my price range – but I loved it so much… couldn’t stop thinking about it. And so I bought it, and brought my lunch to work every day + only drank two buck chuck for at least a month to pay for it. Alas, some things are worth the money, and this coat has paid for itself. It’s warm + cozy, effortlessly chic, and if it rains or snows you can flip the shawl collar to wear as a hood. To this day, I reach for it more often than any of my other coats, and that makes it 100% worth the investment way back when.

These days, the coat acts as a barometer. Whenever I’m about to make a purchase (big or small) I ask myself if I’ll still love it this much in five years. It helps weed out a lot of impulse purchases.

Beautiful, timeless coat! You were 5 years ahead of the “blanket coat” trend and didn’t even know it. With the frigid cold-front coming in this week, I imagine you’ll be getting some good use out of her! The coat is a “her,” right?!

I think your 5 year rule is a great idea. I don’t have a lot of money for nonessentials, so when I do buy clothes or accessories, I try to really think about that purchase and make sure it’s quality and style will make it last a long time.

Awesome coat. I’m afraid if I put that on, I’d want to start a fire, snuggle up and have a nap! Good idea on the 5 year rule also. I’ll have to keep that in mind.
