Weekend Reading, 1.11.25.

The Stripe Blogger Grace Atwood shares Weekend Reading, 1.11.25 - in photo: person holding flowers

I have to say, just writing out “weekend reading” sparked a little joy: it’s good to be back. As much as I loved the break and as much work as this column can be, I really miss curating it when I am OOO. I hope you are as well as possible. The world feels so heavy right now. I have been a mess: really sad and anxious. I made donations to LAFD and World Central Kitchen. Both organizations are doing great things. Here are some other vetted ways to help. This article, too. Sending so much love to everyone affected. <3

I’m trying to read the stories like I used to but the fires and my own threat of family illness and probably losing my own home to financially keep my child and husband well cared for seem very scary. . I don’t want to talk about me . I’ll still always read and look at your recommendations , but now my heart is sad and praying for a lot of miracles .

I cannot imagine being a firefighter , tired , more than exhausted and not even knowing if your own house and family is safe . I have always had a supportive family and this is rather personal but I simply want to share it . When I needed to come home after a divorce, there was a room and food and clothes for my kids. I did it twice . Once after I made a move . We weren’t wealthy. We had what we needed . Fast forward I remarried and my husband was a Dentist so he made a decent family practice living . We lived pretty simply . Fast forward again and a simple pacemaker fail that pierced his heart a few years ago and the very beginning of dementia made him coming home impossible. Now we don’t live on a budget. We’re down to using up our only limited savings . My point is that I’m alone and there is every possibility we will have no home or no place to stay. I am beyond scared. I relate to this fire and losing everything as if it not if but when that will be me and my husband and daughter . I’m praying for miracles now. That’s not why I wrote this . I wrote it because I know that anything can happen so suddenly to anyone. What looks like an almost perfect life to someone looking on can be destroyed in a moment. All we all can do is pray for a miracle for all of us. Thinking of you and your loved ones every day

I will be traveling through Spain this summer and looking for a lightweight bag or backpack to carry on long city walks. Any ideas?

Unrelated: the search functionality on this website is so. good. I know how hard that can be so thank you for doing this work to help the rest of us easily find what we’re looking for. And speaking of help, any chance you could give guidance on styling kick flares? Thank you 🙂

Thank you for saying that! A lot of time and effort goes into all the backend stuff.
