Lately, I’ve been seeing Vianel all over the place and decided to do a little research as I’m really digging their understated aesthetic (a bit reminiscent of Céline, no?) The line was started by Andrew Brooks (ex finance-guy) who figured there was a market for beautifully made card holders in bold colors and luxurious skins. And so he spent a year researching construction + touring the finest tanneries before starting his line, Vianel (named for his two sisters Victoria + Elizabeth… get it, V and L?) At first blush, the card holders, while beautifully designed, feel very simple. But then you get up close and notice the stitching and the edges. Take the black lizard case, for example… it’s trimmed with subtle cobalt blue edging. I also really love the tan, which is trimmed in turquoise. It’s sleek and serious… with a bit of a sense of humor.
Really though, it’s all about those pouches! The pouches are available in black, (also with cobalt edging + zipper pull), or (my personal favorite) tan. The pouches are made from smooth imported grain calfskin (lined with leather). Production is done entirely in the US. I still can’t quite wrap my head around spending $400 for a pouch (and already have something very similar from Mansur Gavriel) but they sure are pretty to look at. I think a card holder is in my future, and I think we’ll be seeing quite a bit more from this brand…

beautiful! i love some of the special details but hear ya… $400 is steep for a
Love them, but the Barney’s website you linked to states that they are made in Italy.

That’s really weird. I think the Barneys website might be wrong, because I pulled all of my info for the post from Vianel’s site… on the product page they state that the pouches are made in the US from imported materials! http://www.vianelnewyork.com/collections/pouch/products/vm1-black-smooth-electric-blue
I love the Electric Blue cardholder from Vianel 🙂
LOVE this post! I’ve been seeing them everywhere too and meaning to do a little research but just never got around to it… Totally agree with you on the Celine comparison – minimalist chic at it’s best!
