I have to warn you – this dress kinda looks like crap on the model (c’mon Bloomies – I never would have bought this if I were just browsing online) but it is soooo much better in person. I had been looking for something velvet to add to my closet for a while now and when I saw this one in store I swooped in on it like a little velvet vulture. it will be great at fashion week (which is next week – howwwww) and later when it cools off a little bit. I could see it being so cute with black tights and my favorite wedges.
Also: I bought this trench coat on sale at Bloomingdales last week and cannot say enough good things. Sandro is my favorite. It’s still a little too warm to actually wear it but I am trying to show more Fall things on the blog as that’s what I’m actually shopping for right now! I mean, Friday is September first, after all! (Again – howwww!?)
A few more velvet goodies I’m crushing on these (ultra inexpensive) booties, this powder blue wrap dress, this top (love the built-in choker), this drape camisole, and this pleated dress.

I had been trying to get a great shot of these earrings (they are a new favorite) and here you go. They are the best. I just love all things Julie Vos.

I don’t think it looks bad on camera at all. I can’t wait to wear more velvet in fall!

So pretty. I love this.
Thank you Cathleen!!
I’m going to Canada for my honeymoon in November and I think this dress might be coming with me!! It looks way better on you then on the model, I love the velvet wrap dress!
xo, Sarah
Yay! Thanks, Sarah! It’s a good one.
Oh yes, velvet dress is such a “must have” piece right now and this burgundy one is gorgeous and looks fantastic on you! I also think that a great, timeless trench coat goes a long way and it’s def. worth investing in one.

Thanks Kristin! I love it too!!
Love this look! I’m obsessed with the trench! would you mind sharing what size you got it in??
thanks!
I got a 40 in the trench, which is a US 6!
The dress is lovely, but much too short. It’s a dress a more mature woman could wear to an event if only it skimmed the knees. I have a wedding coming up next spring and would love to wear this but only if the length was more relevant to my style Not everyone is in her twenties, thirties or forties.
Hi Sylvia! Sorry you find it to be too short! As I am in my thirties (and this blog is about my personal style), that is the audience I tend to write for. That being said, I found a few longer options that I hope you like! You’re always welcome to drop me an email at grace@thestripe.com if you want help finding something. 🙂
