UGH, I Really Want a Caned Bed.

caned bed

I am currently having a lot of guilt because I really, really want a new bed. The bed I have (The Window Bed from West Elm, which I bought 2.5 years ago when I first moved in) is very nice! You can see it here in my Brooklyn apartment home tour. But I’m kind of over the white? I am thinking about selling it and replacing it with a caned bed. I’m not sure if I’m going to take the plunge but I’m currently weighing all the options!

Caned Bed Obsession

My obsession with caned everything is nothing new but the bed thing started last year actually, while perusing Target. I came across a gorgeous caned headboard (sadly no longer available or I would have linked it!) which stopped me in my tracks because it was so beautiful.  Of course it was only available in queen; and I have a king. Then, more recently I was paging through the Serena & Lily catalog and came across this one. WOW. It’s so good. It comes in white and a lighter wood too but I personally prefer the ebony… it’s so chic. I am tempted by it as it’s 20% off right now (with code GUESTPREP)

Below I’m rounding up my favorite caned beds… I also found this DIY tutorial if any of you are feeling adventurous!

caned bed options

There’s also this cane bed from Industry West (this brand has so many amazing caned pieces – that being said, I’ve never bought anything from them so would be nervous!) This is a top contender as it’s available in EMERALD GREEN – my fav color!!! So dreamy.

And then there is this; which is really just the gold standard as everything DWR makes is magic- the Herman Miller one for Design Within Reach. The lines of this one are so beautiful. I would have everything in my apartment from DWR if they were not so… out of reach! I love this though, and it may work better with my space since it doesn’t have a footboard (is that the term?)

For something more affordable, there’s this one from Urban Outfitters.

CB2 also has a very nice one (this one is the more affordable options I’ve found).

new room ideas

And for something totally out of my price range (but extremely dreamy!) I absolutely love this one from Radnor! It’s also way too wide for my space but I had to showcase it as I love the lines… so dramatic!

I’ve never really noticed cane beds until this post. The ones you included are gorgeous! I want one as well now, haha, but I can’t justify just throwing away my perfectly good bed!

As with designer accessories and clothes, the good thing about the Herman Miller is it will hold it’s value. Imagine you could sell it for 75% of what you bought it for should you ever chose to.

Love the idea of a cane bed BUT, do you have a cat? I have 3 and they would think it was the biggest present I ever got them! Just saying….. 🙂 Love your blog – read it daily!!! Pat

Your FBI internet agent and my FBI internet agent must be friends because I have been dying for a caned bed for our king, so this post is literally perfect timing! Also like you I think something without a footboard would be preferable for my room size but most of my favorites include one!! Ahhhh! Please keep us updated on your quest!

HAHA I love it. We’re on the same page. They’re just so good.
Right now, I’m leaning toward the DWR. I am going to have to see how the holiday season goes for the blog. If I hit my goal for partnerships, I am going to do it!!!

We purchased a bunch of furniture for our office from industry west and have loved everything. My interior designer friend uses them a lot. They don’t advertise a ton so I think a lot of people don’t know about them but they have some really great pieces.

I want one too! The CB2 one is really the only one currently in my price range. Can I tell you one thing that drives me crazy? Why don’t they show you what the bed looks like without the mattress? So many ( and often expensive) furniture stores don’t show the whole picture. After Having had an amazingly comfortable Ikea bed and then replacing it with one I hoped would compare ( and didn’t) I guess the slated beds are not always a good fit for me. I couldn’t get enough support and my back was killing me. I had to buy another bed. Wayfare/Allmodern are super affordable and do the BEST job of giving you every detail of their furniture. I wish other sites would follow suit. I often won’t buy online because they don’t give you enough info! I buy a lot online too. Enough ranting now!

I’m right there with you on the “everything caned” obsession! And I am happy to report that a few months ago I took your recommendation on the Target headboard (never thought I’d be happy with furniture from Target) and I am soooo glad I did! It was such a bargain and looks amazing. I frequently give you a virtual high five when I admire it – so I wanted to let you know! Thank you! Another great resource for items with beautiful caning (among many things) is chairish.com. And the bonus there is everything is vintage (i.e., resuse!). I’ve gotten several great things there for my home.

So jealous you got the headboard – I wish it came in more sizes!!!

Have you considered DIYing your current bed? You could staple some caned material to the back of the headboard (I think it would look so cool just in the windows) and give it a lick of paint if you are leaning towards a certain colour?
