How was your weekend? Mine was good! I had a lot of work to do (my moodboard was due to Amazon first thing this morning and I sent it over to them last night!) but I also had a lot of fun – I went out on Saturday… my first time in the city in MONTHS! We went to the new Dante in the West Village and then Gilligan’s in Soho. It felt nice to have a “normal” Saturday with friends. It was weird being in Manhattan – at first it felt so crazy and wild, but within a few hours it felt like nothing had changed (except you know, wearing masks, staying outside, and constantly washing/sanitizing our hands!)
Besides work and play I (surprise surprise) read a LOT. I started The Heir Affair and am breezing through it. (If you’re not familiar: this is the sequel to The Royal We, which came out a few years ago – I absolutely LOVED it.) It’s been fun to read as I feel like I’m reuniting with my old friends!!!! Tomorrow is pub day for The Heir Affair and I highly recommend it, if you are in the mood for something light and fun. (Homegoing is next on the list, if you were wondering.) I have to say, 2020 has not been my favorite year… but from a strictly reading-based perspective, the books I’ve read have been pretty great.
This Week’s Good Things 7.6.20
Here’s this week’s list of good things…. seven things that have caught my eye and/or made my week a little bit brighter. Have a great week ahead! XO
Flip N’ Sip Face Mask
A reader DM’d me this and I ordered one immediately. So often I will go for walks with an iced coffee (or more recerntly a to-go cocktail) and this mask is the perfect solution! I ordered the solid navy blue one and am excited for it to arrive. I love that the brand is mission-based… they donate 15% of their profits from every order to a different cause each month.
Storelando
My Internet friend Orlando (we can use that word loosely, I mostly fangirl him and we’ve never actually met!) has launched a store! There are only two items so far but both feature a hand-painted rainbow design (painted by Orlando himself). The tees are all individually silk screened and made in LA from eco-friendly cotton in a space that produces virtually zero waste. I ordered the rainbow people t-shirt (you know I love a rainbow!) but the print (above) is also really great! Even better – 10% of proceeds from these products will be donated to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute to promote, protect, defend and honor the human rights of Black transgender people.
Simple, Elegant Homegoods
I wanted to get a special engagement gift for Carly and Mike and I wanted it to be from a Black artist! I follow several Black ceramicists on Instagram and they are all totally sold out across the board. My search led me to Tracie Hervy, whose pieces were sold out pretty much everywhere. For good reason. They are simple, beautifully made, and really special. Investment pieces you’ll have forever. A few searches later, I found Bloomist, which carries several pieces by Tracie. I ended up buying this vase for them (and one for me too – oops), and spending wayyyy too much time on the site: I also LOVE all of their objets – like these gorgeous marble links, for examples.
Really cool beach towels!
I am probably late to the party here but man… Society 6 has such pretty beach towels! (I am not sure how nice they are but they sure are pretty. Anyone have one? How is the quality!?) I love this leopard one, this vintage rainbow, these banana leaves, and this irreverent one (lol). Spend some time browsing… there are so many great designs.
A tiny book about art and activism!
Kimberly Drew’s book, This is What I Know About Art, is small and mighty. I had seen it all over the Internet (it’s very instagrammable) and am only about 25 pages into it but am really enjoying hearing her story. Drew believes that art is for everyone and not just the elite, and talks about the link between art and protest. It would make a great gift for the art lover in your life, whether the recipient is yourself… or a friend!
My Bunny Mask!
I don’t know if I’ve ever gotten as many compliments on anything as I have with this bunny mask. People go positively wild over it, which makes me laugh. It’s the best. It’s from Hunt Slonem’s store (you know he’s one of my favorite artists) and it comes in a pack of two. I just love it and it makes me happy. Wearable art in its truest form. They gave me a code for my readers if interested: GRACEHOP gets you 10% off sitewide. I also have this little yellow plate and this serving bowl.
All of the toasts!
I am guilty of making the same breakfast recipes over and over and over again! First it was the air fryer bagel balls…. then it was the banana and egg pancakes (mash up 2 eggs and a banana for the batter), and now it’s ricotta toasts. Every. day. My two favorite combos are a) ricotta, honey, and peach and b) ricotta, pink salt, red pepper flakes, and the lemon Brightland oil. One savory, one sweet. Easy and delicious!

This really brightened my day.. thank you girl!

I’m so glad!
So many fun things! Definitely making a version of the toasts for lunch today.
I make a crostini recipe from Giada that’s similar–ricotta, honey, lemon zest, and olive oil. It’s a hit at every party.
Have a good week!

OH YUM! I am gonna have to try adding lemon zest to mine.
Ok that flip n sip mask is SO good. Naturally the floral one is sold out, but definitely going to pick up a solid color! Such a good idea.

Oh that sounds so good!
Just ordered the flip ‘n’ sip mask! I thought those were so dumb and defeated the purpose when I first saw them…but hey, at least it’s something when drinking iced coffee and walking.
I think this one is better as it has the flap!
Definitely got to make that toast at the bottom! Also, every time I am on your blog, I get one step closer to buying the Brightland olive oil #influenced
Haha it’s so good!
What a great list! I’m looking forward to Heir Affair!
