Thinking About Fall

Fall has always been my most favorite season to shop for. Things changed a little bit when I moved to Charleston… it’s my more summery pieces (dresses, etc) that get the most wear as it’s warm for most of the year here. Still. I get so excited for fall shopping and I’m just starting to shop for it now. A new color palette, more interesting silhouettes, just being a bit more pulled together vs. throwing on a dress.

A few thoughts and favorite pieces…

Silver jewelry has become such a big thing.

This is hard for me as all my fine jewelry is gold. So I just can’t go changing everything. Plus, gold just looks better with my skin. I’m thinking about adding a few affordable silver pieces into my repertoire. I’ll mix them in. The silver version of these inexpensive knockoffs, these J.Crew hoops (they’re so lightweight). Not investing here.

Gahhh, High Sport.

Everything this brand does is perfect. I blame Jess Graves. (If you aren’t reading The Love List, what are you even doing!?) I bought a polo shirt earlier this summer and for fall I have invested in this shell and these pants. Perfectly classic, perfect for mixing with everything.

Polo Shirts

Speaking of polo shirts, they are going to be big for fall and I LOVE that. There are several good ones in this roundup, but honestly? My best tip is to stalk The RealReal for something high end like Brunello Cucinelli or Loro Piana. I bought this navy blue one and it is divine. The fabric is a silk blend and it’s just heaven.

Cargos are a big thing this year.

Last year I bought a great pair from Madewell and will continue to wear them. I’m into this trend but only if it’s made from a silky fabric or in a cut that is more tailored to the body. Last fall I learned that as much as I like it on other people, wide legs are not for me. I need a slimmer cut. I initially loved these pants from Jenni Kayne but then I saw these from J.Crew and ordered the J.Crew ones instead. Just as cute, less expensive. I don’t care to spend a lot of money here and don’t think you need to.

Vests as shirts.

I love this. I have yet to find the right one. But I am unsure if it is just something that doesn’t work with the proportions of my body or I just haven’t found the one. I have ordered a few, and have high hopes for this one. I’ll report back if/when I find “the one.”

Fall in the deep south will break your heart. We wait and wait. It’s beautiful, but it only lasts two weeks and often overlaps with Christmas decorations. Thank you for reminding me to plan a trip somewhere fallish so I can participate a little more this year. I want to wear all of these beautiful clothes!

Hahaha you are so right! I wear the clothes anyway and laugh at myself.

I just wanted to thank you for the way you thoughtfully write your posts. I usually don’t enjoy these types of posts from others as there’s just a collage and maybe a few words to go along with it. However, the explanations you give about the items are so helpful, especially for those of us who might be shopping on a different budget-I can still understand the why and find similar items. You continue to create my favorite and most helpful content!
