The colder months are when I really come alive: rich textures, layered pieces, darker tones. This roundup was particularly fun to curate because, if I’m being honest, fall and winter fashion is where I’m most at home. There’s an art to simplicity in wearing a really good pair of denim or funky cords with a vintage graphic tee. The beauty of Charleston’s seasonality is that I can lean into pieces like these while still getting away with a pair of flip-flops or sandals.

I’m all about embracing a casual look and letting my personality, or the personality of the pieces themselves, drive my style. Sometimes the most interesting outfit is the one that feels like you barely tried at all.

A few things in particular . . .

• Admittedly, I’ve been a little trigger-happy this month, purchasing a bit more on impulse than I historically have. Call me crazy, but I’m just so ready to give my closet a refresh ahead of fall, and I’ve been feeling particularly inspired by what I’ve seen other people wearing. This boatneck tank is already in my hands and may truly be one of my favorite additions of the year. The material is surprisingly thick, and the cut is boxy without completely hiding your shape. My ideal fit. I especially love, in tops, something that isn’t too form-fitting but still has a detail that makes it feel discreetly feminine. The beautiful buttons lining the neckline do exactly that.
• Jacquard is allll the rage this season, which couldn’t make Grace and me happier. Funnily enough, I feel like the jacquard pieces I gravitate toward most are the more subtle ones, almost contradicting the maximalist nature of the texture and design. This frog-closure jacket and tote, both from Zara, are at the top of my wishlist and have been sitting in my cart for weeks. While I wouldn’t pair them together, I love the idea of wearing the jacket with my vintage military pants and a ballet flat, then using the handbag to round out a good basic tee and darker denim combination. There’s something about letting a piece with this much texture do the talking while keeping everything else relatively simple.
• I say this every time, but it is so interesting to me that the intersection of my style and Grace’s is Rachel Comey. RC is one of those brands that speaks to so many different styles, and we both get so giddy at the release of every new collection. While I recognize that these may not be for everyone, I absolutely fell in love with these calf-hair oxfords. They’re the perfect blend of old and new, offering a vintage feel with the kind of elevated craftsmanship that makes them feel particularly special. There’s an air of nostalgia to them, reminding me a bit of the oxfords my grandpa used to sport. But hey, that means the man had good taste!
