The Up Next Edit, Vol. 6

I always love seeing Carly’s picks. She’s typically a step ahead of me, so it generally means that in a few months, I’ll want it too. You can read the last one here if you want more.

The Up Next Edit, Vol. 6

Many, many moons ago, I was the kind of person who worked at a shoe store and dutifully saved each paycheck for a new pair with my employee discount (hello, Steve Madden circa 2016). Not much has changed. To this day, I find myself gravitating toward sneakers and kitten heels far more often than I realistically need to, but seemingly never enough to satisfy the urge. Putting together this month’s roundup only reaffirmed that habit—inspiring a fresh wave of shoe acquisitions and forcing me to get increasingly creative with my storage solutions.

Beyond shoes, I can feel myself growing impatient for fall and the return of layering. It shows in the skirts I’ve been bookmarking and the jackets I can’t seem to get out of my head. It’s wishful thinking, of course, as Charleston slowly emerges from yet another relentless heat wave…

A few things in particular . . .
  • Repetto is one of those brands with an almost cult-like following, and presumably for good reason. They make the kind of ballet flats that are meant to be worn into the ground, somehow becoming even more beautiful with every scuff and crease. As much as I love a good ballet flat, I’d never really been tempted to make the investment in a pair of Repettos until I came across these. What ultimately sold me was the stitching. It immediately reminded me of the weathered seams on an old baseball—an oddly nostalgic detail that gives the shoe a quiet sense of character.
  • Who am I to call myself a trendsetter? I’m certainly not out here blazing sartorial trails, but I did get a good laugh when I saw Reformation’s latest collaboration with Umbro. I’ve been digging through the depths of eBay and Etsy for vintage Umbro shorts since last fall, pairing them with oversized button-downs and graphic tees long before they found their way into a campaign. There’s something about the proportions of this particular pair that I can’t get enough of. I can so easily picture Zoë Kravitz wearing them with a tiny tank and a kitten heel—the kind of outfit that feels completely effortless until you try to recreate it yourself.
  • From this day forward, I’ll be a Nike Moon OG apologist. They are, in every sense of the word, a perfect sneaker. Leaning into that just-stepped-off-the-soccer-pitch aesthetic, the nylon silhouette possesses an effortless coolness that somehow elevates even the simplest uniform of a white tee and jeans. I picked up the yellow pair a few weeks ago and have reached for them nearly every day since. They’re the kind of shoe that quietly does all the work for you!
