Did you ever have that one purchase, that one dreamy item that you simply had to have… only to have it get away? I feel like I have those moments all too often. I once stumbled upon a neon yellow pair of Christian Louboutin heels (satin, strappy, cage sandals – so bold) at a warehouse sale… in my size. Just so perfect. Alas, at $350, they were still so expensive. (but more than 80% off.) I passed them up, only to return the next day and have them gone. I still regret it. I mean, yes… they were bright neon chartreuse, but they would have been the perfect pop of neon, and a fun way to inject my relatively basic wardrobe with something interesting and fabulous. This was 5 or 6 years ago now… and guyyysss… I still think about them.
Anyway – Moda Operandi has a hilarious video series going on right now where they asked some pretty fabulous ladies to share their “one that got away.” It’s really fun to watch. This is perfect because I feel like Moda Operandi has so many incredible pieces that would otherwise get away… but because you get ’em at the trunk show, you get them before they can sell out. Case in point: the Clover Canyon dress from Wednesday’s post. It is now sold out… everywhere!
Right now I’m coveting all things Isabel Marant – I’m sure the pieces above will sell out the second they hit stores! The dress, the top, the skirt, and the sandals. The sandals… just so dreamy / perfect for summer. I’d feel like a Greek goddess wearing them. If I had an unlimited budget, I’d buy all four and run off to the South of France.
But anyway – watch the video… and then tell me your “one that got away” in the comments!
Disclosure: This post was done in partnership with Moda Operandi, a brand I genuinely love and support (far too often, I might add!) Thanks for supporting the brands that make this site possible.
This happens to me all the time! I call it savers remorse. You can’t let it go!!!
It wasn’t a purchase, but a few years ago, my mom wanted to give me her vintage quilted Chanel purse…and I said no! It “wasn’t my style” at that time and I’ve been kicking myself ever since.
WHAT? Does she still have it? You need to get it!!!
Nope if I really love it I just buy it and keep it aside with the receipt just in case I change my mind.
Oh gosh, I have a handful of items that definitely fit into this category. Thankfully I have had some luck tracking a few of them down on eBay, but there are still others that I dream about & kick myself for not getting (the curse of waiting for a sale, only to find out it’s sold out in your size)!

absolutely know that feeling! Mine is a Valentino classic beige trench coat with black piping and bow belt, my size, 60 percent off and still some 300 bucks that I didn’t have three years ago (when I didn’t even own a credit card) – not that I have the money now 😉 In retrospect it would have been such a worthy cause to have used a credit card.
The one item I still dream about are the Christian Louboutin Polluck pumps – which were gone even before I knew they existed!
Otherwise I don’t fret – there will always be something new to covet!
It’s so funny that you should mention this, because the dress you are wearing in the picture on the right hand bar of your page – is my purchase that I wish I had made!!
Hahaha that is funny! I did the same, but ended up finding mine on ebay. I ebayed mine 2 yrs ago but you may still be able to find it! Also C Wonder has a sweater that looks a LOT like it.
Moda is one of my favorite sites – I pre-ordered a Preen top last week… the hardest part is waiting several months to get it! 🙂

I can totally relate… I either end up splurging on the purchase, then wondering why I even did that… but the purchases that I don’t end up making I always regret! It’s a weird circle of life I guess. 🙂

Sometimes, and sometimes I regret things I’ve gotten rid of!
I know, me too. Hate that feeling to reach for something only to remember I gave it away!
YES, totally! There was this white silk Joie tank top that had big scallops along the bottom that I saw on a few style blogs (come to think of it-yours might have been one of the blogs I saw it on)…and I still obsess about it to this day. It seemed expensive but it was a perfect goes-with-everything piece with a feminine twist. Every time I see someone wearing it in an outfit post I want to smack myself for not getting it!
Awwww yes! I do have that top and at the time felt badly spending so much on a tank but it is one of my favorite pieces. I bet Joie will bring it back… they have to! (And if they do, I’m going to get it in every color.)
I felt the same way about the white tank but ended up getting a pastel floral version of the Joie tank at TJ Maxx no less!
ahhhh amazing! My friend found it in navy at TJ’s… so jealous!
Haha I loved this video! I’ve had sooo many of these moments.
I was lusting over a red and black Pour La Victoire purse at Neiman Marcus Last Call online. I debated if the size was too large for me, but their sales vary so I was waiting for the next time I hit $105 (which is expensive for me). Well, it completely sold out the day after it hit $105 and I still think about why I didn’t get it when I had the chance. I was even stalking the website almost everyday! lol
This is so funny bc the “one that got away” for me was an Isabel Marant top that I tried on when I was in the Soho shop. I was obsessed, but didn’t end up buying and I regret it all the time. The spring line has some similar styles of the top and I cannot pass them up this time!!!! xoxo
