Making an Exit.

Happy Friday, friends! I hope you have fun weekend plans. I am going to lay low as I have not been feeling great – though I am planning to see a movie with one of my girlfriends (any recommendations?? I saw La La Land and Hidden Figures last weekend) and probably more excitingly, go dress shopping! Next weekend I am going to the LA for the SAG Awards with L’Oreal (!!!) and I need to find a gown. I can’t even believe I am writing that… the whole thing feels a bit surreal. The SAG Awards, gown shopping… who am I!?! As excited as I am, I have absolutely no idea what I am going to wear at this point… it’s a little bit (a lot) intimidating, I kinda feel out of my element. Here in New York I’ve done the black ties and the fundraisers… but the SAG Awards are just… on an entirely different level! I will probably just go for something classic and black as I want to make sure I’ll be able to wear it again and again… gowns can get pricy. And then jewelry… eek… we shall see! My best friend is coming with me… usually I prefer to shop alone (get in, get out!) but this is one of those times where I really am going to need a second opinion. Maybe I will snapchat the dress shopping experience so that you guys can weigh in… I need all the help I can get!

I splurged on this shearling coat last year and it is one of my all time favorite purchases. My best friend and I actually bought the same exact coat. I can’t take credit… she spotted it first. We were at Woodbury Commons and we both squealed a little when we saw it. I love it so much and it is so warm. It’s one of those purchases I know I will have and wear forever. You can see it in action last year… styled here, here, and here. If you are looking for a similar coat I really love Club Monaco’s shearling coats. I saw this one in store and the quality is amazing. They are expensive but an investment. Or you can go the faux route – this one looks quite a bit like mine. For a similar look (but not shearling), I also love this and this!

Outfit Details: Tahari Shearling Coat (from last year but love this,ย this, this, and this) // Club Monaco Sweaterย (also love this + this!) // ย 7 for all Mankind Jeans (love this pair too) // Fendi Purse // Kate Spade Heels // Karen Walker Sunglasses //ย Hot Lips by Solange Ring

I love this cashmere bow back sweater! It’s so soft and snuggly and the bows on teh back are so pretty. If you are looking for something a little more affordable I love this and this too.

And while we’re on the topic of making an exit… how fun are the crystals on these heels!?

I am mid-40s and trying to get my wardrobe in check to be classic, with a bit of flair. I must admit, it is a bit daunting to take this on because there is so much out there! Your outfits give me inspiration for doing this. Your look is always on point, classic, and so stylish…but also mostly practical for everyday wear.

Thank you so much for sharing your unique style…so I can steal a few ideas here and there . Keep sharing!

You are stunning, lady! It looks like you were having fun and feeling really good when you took these pics! The Shearling coat is amazing.

Eeeep can’t wait to see your snaps of the SAG awards! I’m sure whatever you choose to wear will be gorgeous.

I’m not feeling that great either. I live about 4 blocks from the Capitol but I’m watching everything unfold on TV right now. I can hear the motorcades and helicopters! So surreal.

So excited for you about the SAG awards, what a great opportunity! I know black is always classic, but you are so gorgeous in color. I notice it’s very on trend this year at all the award shows too! I vote color! Love this outfit. I found my sister a faux fur collar/infinity scarf for Christmas this year in a very similar shade. Seriously glam and gorgeous with blue eyes! Anyway, you will look stunning no matter what you pick. Haven’t seen any new movies ( but lots of the list) lately, but going to the opening night at Noir City film festival ( I swear we have over a hundred film festivals here in SF) Always a fun event. Take care , I know you’ve been a little under the weather lately.

Love that coat! How exciting about the SAG awards, cannot wait to see your gown.
I have a question for you. Several months ago you featured an eye mask for sleeping, and I had saved it, but can’t find it now. I think you mentioned a couple, actually but you had a favorite? I moved to the city last summer, and it is SO bright in my bedroom at night! I have an ok mask…but I am on the hunt for the perfect one.
    Hope you feel better soon!

Have you seen 20th Century Women? It’s excellent and would be a great one for a movie date with a friend. I just saw Moonlight and while it is absolutely fantastic (beautiful/heartbreaking), it is challenging so it kind of requires being in the right mood. Randomly, I want to see the Lego Batman Movie (not my usual jam but it looks hilarious!) but it’s not out yet.

Can’t wait to see what you pick for the SAG Awards! A few years ago I had a job that allowed me to attend several of those big award shows (including the big, big one — I miss that job) and they’re so much fun. I will say that for anyone who isn’t a celeb/nominee, the dress tends to vary a lot. Some do dress up, but there are plenty who look like they’re dressed for a Wednesday night networking event or their least favorite cousin’s wedding. It was surprising. So I’d say pick something (relatively) comfortable that showcases your own sense of style but don’t worry about the magnitude of the event — you can’t compete with ladies draped in custom Valentino, but you can look like the best damn version of yourself ๐Ÿ™‚

PS — for the big, big event, I ended up wearing a black stretch lace maxi dress (that I’d had in my closet for months) and a great bold necklace. The dress was from H&M and I bought it on sale (twenty bucks!). I got SO many compliments, including from a fashionable redhead who was wearing Chanel. And holding an Oscar. It was the best.
