We talk a lot about natural deodorants over here. It’s something I’ve gotten pretty passionate about (it can be really hard to find a good one, so I have literally tried them all and feature the best ones for you here). Deodorant is the one item where I will only use a natural one. I am not here to scare you guys but if you keep reading this post I think you will agree with my reasoning.
Back in August, my go-to natural deodorant wasn’t working quite as well and a girlfriend recommended Kopari’s Coconut Deodorant. I wrote about that experience here. Kopari is easily the best and most effective natural deodorant I’ve tried. I haven’t used anything else since mid August (so it’s been about two solid months) and it remains my favorite.
Kopari reached out to me about partnering on a second post (it’s so cool when brands I already love and feature organically without being paid reach out to partner) to drive awareness about their October campaign, which I absolutely LOVE as there is a charitable element AND you guys get a nice discount. First of all, for every Coconut Deodorant sold, the brand is giving $1 to F Cancer. And, with the code THESTRIPE25, you can take 25% off your first deodorant or first deodorant subscription. (Besides the deodorant which we will chat about, the brand has a lot of other amazing products – I love the shower oil and organic body melt!)
Why you should switch to a natural deodorant:
Simply put, there is a lot of bad stuff in most commercial deodorants (especially anti-perspirants), the biggest offender being aluminum.
What’s so bad about aluminum? Watch this video! It blocks your sweat glands which prevents you from sweating. Of course that sounds like a good thing, but sweat is how your body expels toxins on a daily basis. There are several studies that have found aluminum may contribute to the formation of certain cancers and Alzheimer’s disease. When I heard that (years ago) I stopped using deodorants with aluminum immediately. But it’s been a bit of a journey finding one I really like.
And the thing is (and this is important!) it isn’t sweat that causes odor; it’s bacteria. So I’ve found that the way to go is to focus primarily on finding a deodorant that blocks bacteria vs. stopping sweat.
All About The Coconut Deodorant – Kopari
- It’s aluminum and baking soda-free. Baking soda is fine health-wise; but a lot of people experience irritation and get a rash from it. (I personally do not, but have several friends who are scared of natural deodorants because they’ve gotten the baking soda rash.)
- The formula is invisible and totally clear. There’s no white residue. it is not sticky at all, and it will NOT stain your clothes.
- It’s formulated without parabens, phthalates, triclosan and considered clean (in fact, it’s Sephora’s #1 clean deodorant!)
- It glides on very smoothly and the tube lasts forever!
Benefits of Coconut Oil:
Coconut oil is naturally antimicrobial and anti-bacterial, so it naturally kills bacteria-causing odors. It’s also deeply hydrating so it nourishes and protects even the most sensitive skin. It also smells amazing – like sweet coconut milk!
Other Active Ingredients:
The formula contains a 100% plant-based active which provides odor protection while simultaneously warding off the bacteria that cause odor. Sage oil helps aid in sweat and odor reduction; and coconut water is packed with electrolytes, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals.
What People Are Saying:
You can of course read my review of Kopari’s coconut deodorant here. As I’ve said before, it’s the best and most effective natural deodorant I’ve tried. But of course it’s helpful to not just take my word for it as what works for me may not work for everyone! The product has over 1,700 5 Star Reviews and was a 2018 Allure Best of Beauty (the holy grail!) winner. It’s also (as mentioned above) Sephora’s best-selling clean deodorant, which says a lot.
What to know before making the switch!
You might experience a short detox period. Don’t worry – this is totally normal, and it goes away. I went through it when I made the switch years ago, but had no idea what was going on. Here is what to expect.
Stage 1: You may feel a little sweaty and smelly. Your pores are starting to detox and are somewhat plugged.
Stage 2: You might really smell for a few days. Your pits are in full purge mode. I combatted this by sweating it out in the tub (a detox bath or epsom salts are great), and regularly exfoliating my pits. In a pinch, I would rub lemon juice or a cleansing wipe on them to kill the funk and then reapply my deodorant.
Stage 3: You’ll notice you’re smelling better.
Stage 4: You’ll smell great and probably are sweating less. The detox is over! (Get more details on the detox process + how to speed it up here!)
I can’t recommend this product enough. Don’t forget – take 25% off your first deodorant order or subscription with code THESTRIPE25!

I think I’ve heard about this deodorant before, Grace! Was it you or someone else who mentioned it? Either way, the coconut smell is enough to sell me already! 🙂

Yes it was me – I wrote about it back in August!
Really need to try this one — I’m also a big fan of natural deodorant and a few people in my FB group were talking about their love of Kopari’s, too! I’m already a huge fan of its lip balm — hydrating and adds this pretty little glossy look I love — so will have to try. Thanks!

It’s the best! Def let me know how you like it!!!
I personally use Kopari deodorant, as well. The ingredients are “clean-ish” compared to most deodorants, but truthfully, the ingredients are not squeaky clean! There are definitely “cleaner” options if we want to get technical.
Oh interesting! Thanks for letting me know – will chat with the brand!
Just an FYI – heard back from the brand and this is what they said!
“Kopari’s Coconut Deodorant is 98% natural plant-based ingredients (confirmed by their chemist). Since propylene glycol (the fragrance) doesn’t exist in nature its considered to be a “synthetic mimicking” since it is plant based.”
(Seems clean enough to me, but I am definitely not an expert!)
Thank you for following up! Xo
Kopari is the only one that works for me too!! I literally just ordered another bottle a week ago. I was heartbroken when I ran out and the only way I can get it is from Nordstrom so I tried something else in the meantime and it didnt work and it made me miss Kopari so much more.

I think I’m getting natural deodorant fatigue over here
aw I’m sorry! It’s def something I’m really passionate about. BUT there is a second post up today with the best sweaters for Fall, which is hopefully more up your alley!
Yes, love! 🙂
I loved Native for awhile but after about a year it started irritating my skin – it has baking soda so that might be why. I’ll have to give this one a try! Also, love your sweater! Where is it from?
Give it a try and let me know! This one is super dry. Sweater is Acne! http://shopstyle.it/l/Tqbe
I hope this is the ticket, I’ve had quite the journey with natural deodorants and recently suffered a setback that sent me back to hypoallergenic non-natural brand.
1. agent Nateur – smelled great, worked fine, gave me a rash after a month.
2. Native – went fine but never truly crazy about it. Small red marks but nothing crazy.
3. Schmidt’s charcoal – I liked it but seemed wet and gloppy for a stick
4. Megababe – great texture and wonderful smell, so stoked. And then. Fucked my pits up. Painful raised red rash and I don’t think it even has baking soda. Like I had to take Advil or I couldn’t sleep from the pain. Took a few days to clear up.
I don’t want to give up but it’s nice having happy pits again. Fingers crossed for Kopari!!!
Hi Carrie!
Okay I am super curious to see how you like this one because the texture is a lot like Megababe, but I preferred it to Megababe. Fingers crossed, please please keep me updated! (I’m invested, haha!)
Your advice a few posts back about using an acid before applying natural deodorant has been a game changer. I might try my Kopari again with this trick, I kept finding that I needed to reapply multiple times a day which was frustrating. I found that Native works best for me so far, Schmidt’s sensitive is also alright. Interesting how different brands work so differently with people.
Oh GOOD I am so glad to hear it!
It really is crazy how different deodorants work better/worse for different people.
An important thing to note is that every person is different. I used Kopari for a while, but it DID stain my clothes and wasn’t the most effective for me personally. I use Megababe Rosy Pits now. But I’m glad it’s working for you, and it’s always worth a try!
I completely agree. It really does just depend on your body chemistry!
