Hot child, summer in the city… back of my neck getting dirty and gritty. There are two universal truths that come with summers in New York City. First of all, it’s HOT. Like, really hot. Second, the heat is no excuse to look like a slob. So complain about the blistering heat all you want, but the women here still manage to look perfectly pulled together, no matter the temperature.
I will confess. I don’t always care to look put together. My sweatpants time at home is my most cherished time. But if I’m leaving the apartment, I make an effort to look nice. It doesn’t have to be super fancy, but I still like to feel pulled together. This mentality was reinforced when I read The Career Code (so good by the way)… Hillary Kerr shared an embarrassing story where she went out to run an errand looking slobbish and ran into a famous editor – in this city, you really never know who you are going to run into! Personally, I typically beat the heat by wearing a pretty sundress and low wedge heels or sandals. I don’t like to wear much makeup during the day so big sunglasses and lip gloss do the trick. Lately though, I’ve been really into dressing up my favorite cutoffs. A floaty top and jeweled sandals get the job done perfectly.
And on that (hot) note, I am off to Charleston for the weekend! It’s even hotter there, but I can’t wait to see some of my favorite friends (and eat all of the oysters!) Have a great one, friends!

I would love to get some of that NYC hotness in my city. We’re celebrating Midsummer this weekend and the weather is nothing like Summer one. Anyway, you’re looking gorgeous in this simple, comfy and girly outfit! I like your blouse very much. 🙂

I’ve been really trying to write in a more personable way and I’ve slowly noticed I like the way you write. You greet us and tell us what you’ve been doing and what you’re going to do. Love it. Have fun 🙂

Aw that is so sweet, Thuy! Thank you — I sometimes wonder if telling you what I’m up to is boring so it’s nice to hear that you enjoy it. Have a great weekend! xoxo

Love the outfit! Fresh and pretty. What nail polish are you wearing? We would all like to know the nail/lip colors you are wearing with the different outfits. Thanks! Charleston is on my list. Hoping to go for the Food and wine fest next year!
Ahhhh I need to be better about this!
My manicure is just a white gel manicure (done at Paintbox NYC) with little gold dots down the middle. That being said, I’m with you on gel manicures… I find that the best white regular polish is OPI Alpine Snow. So bright and opaque!!
And on my lips I am wearing NARS Red Square. It’s one of my FAVORITE lipsticks, especially in the summer as it’s a matte pencil and won’t melt off my face.
I hope you get to Charleston at some point – it is such a special place. I am dying to go to the Food & Wine festival too.. maybe we’ll both be there next year! 😉
I don’t usually don’t do white polish( not sure it looks good on me) but I am loving the OPI Don’t boss nova me, which is a gorgeous nude. I tried it at the salon, went to target and they didn’t have it so I bought Sally Hansen’s gel polish in birthday suit, which looks like an exact dupe! Maybe I will try the Alpine white next time.
Also wanted to tell you, I hate waiting to get my nails done because I hate the dry time. I don’t do gel anymore , it just ruins my nails. I’ve tried all the gel polishes( the no light needed kind)expensive and cheap and so far Covergirl outlast has worked the best. ( I bring mine to the salon with me) I was using the Sech Vite quick dry, which is good, but the Sally Hansen Insta-dry top coat is a game changer! Less expensive and you are dry in 45 seconds. My manicure with regular OPi polish lasted six days! As long as the paint on gel. Two coats. Also I bought the new Jin Soon colors Blush and Crush and at your suggestion and I love them. Thanks! I’ve heard before from beauty experts that the drug store brands are often as good as or better than the department store brands( I still love the high end too) because they have so much money for research. Thanks so much for all the inspiration!
Hi Cy! You are SO right about Sally Hansen Insta-Dry top coat! I used to work for Sally Hansen (years ago) and got hooked on it back then!!! So amazing. I’m really happy that you are loving the new Jin Soon colors – they are so, so pretty!!!!
I completely agree that oftentimes the drugstore brands are just as good and sometimes better. One of the fun parts of blogging is getting to try everything and find out those little cheapie discoveries that are oftentimes better than their expensive counterparts 🙂 🙂
Hope you have a great weekend!
