Stripes!

STRIPES_4

I got this dress at the Gap a couple years ago (also seen in an old blog post here) and it is one of those pieces I’ll probably hang onto forever. The fabric is extra thick and I love the zipper details at the neck. I reach for again and again because I know it will always look good. Sidenote: I find that the most flattering striped dresses are the ones that are slightly structured or made from a thicker fabric… you want the stripes to hold their shape and not stretch out. Also, you don’t want it too tight. Size up when in doubt! I topped off my stripes with layered necklaces… an old favorite from BaubleBar + this beauty from Lulu Frost x J.Crew.

The dress is old but I rounded up some other good striped dress picks below. They all fall under my criteria for being flattering! My favorite is this one… the solid side panels lengthen your silhouette – making you appear long + lean. I also really like this one, from Rebecca Taylor – and it just went on sale!

Shop the Post: Gap Dress (old) // Gucci Soho Disco Bag {also here, and here in a nice neutral} // J.Crew Heels {from last year, but this year’s version is nearly identical and these are cute too} // BaubleBar Necklace (old) // Lulu Frost x J.Crew Necklace (c/o)

  1. Striped dresses are like jeans- it’s hard to find a good one, but when they’re good, they’re great! Love the pop of red with the bag!

  2. You look so pretty in these pictures! I’m convinced now I also need a navy striped dress (and the answer is no, it didn’t take much convincing!)

  7. Love that dress and it’s something that will never go out of style. Definitely agree to go thicker to hold its shape better – thrown away so many!

  13. This look is SO SO cute–especially styled with those awesome silver sandals and the necklace! And amen to the thick fabric/structuring trick. Such a good point to keep in mind! I’ve fallen victim to too many striped clothing items in a thinner fabric and they always stretch out and look terrible after a wear or two. Love this look on you!! XX

  17. I LOVE this dress, maybe it’s just me but I feel like the quality at GAP was so much better a few years ago. I’ve been looking for a nice thick knit striped dress all summer. I’m definitely checking out your recommendations. Have a great weekend Grace. xoxo
