Lately, I have been really drawn to a statement coat. There are so many good ones. You can do feathers or embellishment, fur accents, tweedy textures . . . silky satins, or all of the above. Wear them out to dinner over a more formal ensemble, or use them to punch up basic jeans and a tee. In this case, the coat is the outfit.
