Something New.

blouse // bag // culottes // sandals

This outfit is one of my absolute favorites right now. But if you had told me even six months ago that I would be really, really into culottes, I would have laughed at you and laughed very hard. Don’t get me wrong. There are some great culottes out there and they look fabulous on a lot of my more willowy friends. But I was certain that on me, they’d make me feel large all over. Adding pleats and wide legs felt like the perfect way to go from wide hips to wide all over. But somehow, these work. And besides being super flattering, they are crazy comfortable. Like, I don’t ever want to take them off. I’m pretty much 100% sure that they will look great on every body type, so if you are in the mood to try something new, give these a go!

The only problem so far has been trying to find a coat that works with them (nothing I have looks right so far… longer jackets look too bulky, and none of my shorter coats go with them). With the warmer weather we’ve been having, that hasn’t been a problem, but I’d love any ideas you may have!

I paired it with this gorgeous Sézane blouse. While I adore Sézane, I personally find the fit of their tops to be a little funny. They’re almost always too tight in the shoulders and WAY too short (kinda like J.Crew’s tops – I always get a tall in their shirts). So I bought the top two full sizes bigger than usual and it’s perfect! It’s looser on me than it is on the model, but it fits well through the shoulders and it’s long enough for me to tuck in.

I felt the same way about culottes – until I got really into them last year. Now, they’re staples for me!

It’s funny how some trends seem so weird/scary at first and then they grow on us!

I bought a 10! As I said in the post, I ordered two sizes up. I’m usually a 6 and sized up to a 10.

I feel like an angular suede jacket would be great – somehow feels more appropriate than leather? Is that just my seasonal preference?? Something like this (really like the thought of it in olive with that shade of denim): https://www.shopbop.com/wade-faux-suede-jacket-bb/vp/v=1/1538686795.htm?currencyCode=USD&extid=SE_froogle_SC_usa&cvosrc=cse.google.BBDAK42072&cvo_campaign=SB_Google_USD&ef_id=WLXzOgAABA-b4ShN:20171027230914:s

I’m curious to see what you go with for the fall! My body type is pretty similar to yours, and I never thought I could do culottes either, but they are great on you, especially the bow!

You could maybe try a suede moto jacket without the belt! It would just need to be the right length so that it didn’t interfere with the bow. Leather would be fun, too!
