When I shoot an outfit for the blog, it’s usually something that I either a) already wore to work that week, or b) have planned to wear later in the week. And due to my busy work schedule/aversion to mornings in general, I can usually only meet with my photographer once a week so we usually will shoot two or three looks before work on Thursday morning. I plan everything (down to jewelry, which I often forget) out the night before to stay organized. And so, I had everything planned for this shoot (of course I was wearing a dress, and for the record no – my outfit did not involve tights) and then it snowed. A lot. Oh. Crap.

In a pinch I ended up just throwing together a few of my favorite things (I live in some combination of flannel shirt / skinny jeans / ankle boots most days since it’s been so cold!) We shot these (literally) right outside my apartment so that we wouldn’t be too cold, alas, we still froze. A brutal reminder that winter is very much here. Really, truly here. Ooph. There will be no more bare legs or light jackets til Springtime, friends… it’s time to bundle things up!!!

Shop the Post: Emerson Fry Jacket (from two years ago) // Vintage Fur Stole (bought at a really cool thrift store back home a few years ago… but check Etsy – they have so many great vintage furs!) // Equipment Flannel Shirt (now on sale!) // James Jeans (so comfy that you can – allegedly – do yoga in them!) // Old Navy Ankle Boots // Elie Tahari Sunglasses // Kate Spade Saturday Bag (c/o)

Confession: I still look on Ebay from time to time to find this coat 🙁 It’s definitely near the top of my list of “beautiful things that got away.”

It’s one of my best purchases to date. I don’t wear it on the blog very often because I bought it so long ago and there isn’t anything online that’s very similar for me to link to… but it is just the BEST… I wear it at least once a week. I wish they’d re-release it!

PS – You should also stalk Thredup, Threadflip, Poshmark, and all of those sites. I hope you find it.

I shot my NYE outfits outside in the snow, no tights. Never again! No matter how cute it looked, next time I’ll wear tights at the very least. I wish it snowed where I am, it’s just cold and miserable instead.

Before I read your post, I looked at the photo and thought how comfy and cozy your outfit looked. I love it! I don’t know what you had planned for this day, but the flannel/jeans/jacket combination looks pretty great!

I feel like a big warm jacket with fur is a necessity in the Northeast! I am living in mine right now with this cold!

Even if it’s not what you planned, this outfit and the pictures are amazing! (The snowy backdrop is so pretty too!) I just love your hair too!

That coat is real good! And honestly, this is one of my favorite outfits you’ve ever posted. Maybe you should wing it with your favorites more often! 🙂

haha, thank you! I just hate wearing things that I can’t link to – I’ve gotten complaints before (and the coat is so old.) 🙂

How does your hair look so fabulous even when it’s snowing?! Jealous. Love this look. I also like how the components of your outfit are on the side of the picture now. It’s different and reminds me of a magazine.

Haha, I think that it’s a little misleading because I popped outside of my apartment for 10 minutes to take the photos and then ran back inside! When I left for work after the shoot, I added a beanie, zipped up my coat, and threw on a huge fluffy scarf. My hair was fully hidden from the elements and stayed nice for the rest of the day 😉

Also thank you so much for the feedback on the caption! I thought that was a fun touch and am happy you noticed.
