My Covergirl Lashblast Fusion Mascara came in the mail yesterday and I was ridiculously (OK, maybe a little bit too) excited to try it out. Upon arriving home from work, I immediately headed straight to the bathroom where I removed my existing mascara (Rimmel Sexy Curves,) and applied 3 coats of the LashBlast.
OK, I have to say it… it’s a great mascara, but not as great as I’d hoped. It definitely made my lashes longer and thicker, but it wasn’t amazingly better than any of the other mascaras I’ve tried. My favorite LashBlast is still the yellow one. Don’t get me wrong… I’ll keep using it. It’s good, it just didn’t live up to all the hype.
As a marketer though, I just have to remark that this was a great strategy. So well executed on P&G’s part. The pre-sell campaign built up so much hype around the product that everyone was just dying to try it. Facebook, Twitter, Bloggers, etc. etc. And as a consumer, I felt special being able to order the product ahead of time. But in the end, its just another (great, but not exceptional) mascara.
