Primed.

My skin has been looking better than usual these days and it’s all because of one little addition to my beauty routine.  Primer.  In the past I’d skipped primer as I don’t wear foundation every day, but I recently learned that you can wear primer by itself.  Traditionally, it is worn under foundation to smooth away fine lines and ensure that foundation or other makeup will go on flawlessly.  I’ll do this for a big night or on days where I need a little more makeup than usual… but for my every day look, I take about a dime sized amount and blend it into my skin after moisturizing.  In turn, it reduces the look of fine lines + pores and leaves skin flawless with a soft, velvety finish.

Personally, I like to think of primer kind of like the filters I use in Instagram.  We all know the filters make us look just a little better… (Valencia is my  go-to.)  Smashbox is the authority when it comes to primer and sells nine varieties… (pictured below) to help you achieve the exact look you want.  Cancel out redness?  Add a little glow?  Just apply the right filter.

From top left:  Photo Finish (the classic) // Dark Spot Correcting (brand new!) // With SPF 15 // Color Correcting – Blend // Luminizing // Photo Finish Light (oil free) // Hydrating // Color Correcting – Adjust // Color Correcting – Balance

I was lucky enough to get to try all nine varieties.  My favorites were the Classic formula, for a smooth, velvety finish when I do want to use foundation afterward…. the Color Correcting Balance (the green evens out the skin around my nose and cheeks, which is very prone to redness,) and the Luminizing formula, which is the easiest way to add a little bit of believable glow. (I also like using a little bit of this one on my shoulders and décolleté.)

PS – The colored primers do not go on colored…they absorb easily and blend right in with your skin tone.
