Ooh, a Sunday Post! For two reasons… today is my birthday (I’m 34, which is not very exciting), but also (and more excitingly) today, Adam Lippes debuts a collection of amazing plaid pieces at Target. Fun fact: when I first started blogging, Adam was the first designer to ever reply to one of my tweets. A blogger remembers these things.
To celebrate the launch, Target asked me to style two head to toe plaid looks. I was a little bit nervous at first but with a little guidance from Pinterest, I was on my way. It ended up being really fun, as it pushed me out of my comfort zone a bit. Plaid is fun as you can play by the rules, or break them by experimenting a little bit.
Outfit Details
Look One: Fashion Union Plaid Dress // Target Scarf // Manolo Blahnik Pumps // Z by Zac Posen Bag (old, similar here + here) // BaubleBar Cuff
Look Two: Merona Pants // Mossimo Sweater // Saint Laurent Clutch (similar) // Manolo Blahnik Pumps
In the first look, I played by the rules… opting for a classic shift dress. To make it a little more fun though, I added a scarf in a different plaid. It works though, as both pieces have red/orange woven throughout, which helps keep the look cohesive. When mixing patterns, that’s the key… keep the color palettes somewhat similar and you will be fine.
For the second look, I mixed things up a little more, pairing windowpane check + buffalo plaid. Originally, I was going to style the pants with the matching t-shirt, but once I tried on this sweater, I changed my mind.
Also, I should note that this sweater is amazing – so comfy and cozy. I’ll be wearing it all Fall long (I think it would be cute over a flannel button down, too!)
(and a cute outtake, because making friends is important.)

You look so pretty and super stylish in both of these outfits! Plaid on plaid is one of my favourite combos and I like the way you’ve created two looks, more masculine one and more feminine one. 🙂

Happy Birthday!
I don’t normally like plaid, because it seems to always go grunge. These I really like. Loving that scarf and dress. Great combos!
Both of these looks are 100% things I would wear! You mixed the patterns so well! I think I might swing by Target today to try on that dress 🙂

Happy Birthday Grace. I love both these looks( I became slightly obsessed with plaid last season). Your hair looks fantastic too. You have such gorgeous legs, so dresses are always great on you. The length of that shift dress is perfect for you. Can’t decide they both look great. A note on birthdays, life gets better as you get older. 🙂
I love that dress! Been following your blog for quite some time now and I love it.
