Paula’s Choice Eye Cream Review

Paulas Choice Eye Cream Review

If you’ve read here long, you know that I am a long time fan of Paula’s Choice. I’ve been using and loving their products for years. What sets them apart from other skincare brands is their commitment to using only high-quality, science-backed ingredients. They don’t use any irritating fragrances or unnecessary fillers which means their products are gentle on the skin but highly effective. I also love how transparent they are as a brand. They clearly list all of the ingredients in their products, and they explain the purpose of each ingredient. Their ingredient dictionary is a godsend, I have learned so much from it — I look everything up using it. This makes it easy for us to understand what they’re putting on their skin and why.

Paula’s Choice was founded in 1995 by Paula Begoun, also known as “the cosmetics cop.” You can read more about her here, she sounds like a fascinating (and determined!) person. Their most famous product is probably their 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant, which I really like. I am also a huge fan of their Pro Collagen Multi Peptide Booster. It plumps up fine lines in minutes and has great long term benefits too. Today though, we are talking about their new(ish) Vitamin C Eye Cream, their C5 Super Boost Eye Cream. You know by now that I am always on the hunt for the perfect eye cream, and I’m really impressed with this one, particularly by how well it tackles dark circles and dullness

paula’s choice eye cream review

The C5 Super Boost Eye Cream launched this past September. It’s key claim is that it improves the look of dark circles and puffiness. I have tried so many Vitamin C eye creams and love this one as it is effective but not at all irritating. It’s great for all skin types.

ingredients & scent

This eye cream is formulated with a potent blend of antioxidants, including 5% pure Vitamin C, to brighten and firm the delicate skin around the eyes. It is fragrance free and in the spirit of (at least in my experience) all Paula’s Choice products it is gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin types.

  • Vitamin C 5%: brightens the look of under-eye dullness and smooths visible fine lines. Paula’s Choice uses 3-O ethyl ascorbic acid which is a highly stable form of vitamin C that improves skin tone, helps improve discoloration, and visibly firms skin.
  • Zerumbone: comes from ginger root; targets the root causes of under-eye discoloration. It also helps to soothe puffiness.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: one of my favorite hydrating ingredients. It is a humectant, which means that it naturally attracts water to it. It can do this by drawing moisture from the air, from creams, etc. Hyaluronic acid actually pulls moisture from the air into your skin!
  • Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Extract: a rich source of antioxidants, great for hydration.
  • Peptides: firms the skin around the eyes and restore bounciness to the skin.

It also contains olivate sorbitan (a mixture of fatty acids that acts as an emulsifier), glycol cetyl alcohol (a gentle fatty alcohol used as an emollient), sodium hydroxide (adjusts the product’s pH balance), and sodium phytate (helps to keep the formula stable, though Paula’s Choice uses a highly stable form of Vitamin C).

packaging

It’s packaged in an airtight (opaque) pump, which helps with the stability of the formula (particularly, Vitamin C!). It dispenses just the right amount of product without any waste.

texture

The product is a gel formula. It is hydrating but incredibly lightweight and fast-absorbing. It doesn’t leave any greasy residue behind, which is a huge plus for me. It’s very easy to apply!

finish

Upon patting this onto my skin, it absorbs almost immediately. It has a nice velvety finish. The brightening effect kicks in quickly too… you’ll notice a minor difference within seconds of application. The skin feels hydrated and prepped for concealer should you choose to use it. I have not noticed any pilling with my concealers!

how to use the c5 super boost vitamin c eye cream

I apply about 1/2 pump (you really don’t need much!). Place the product on your index finger and gently apply. I have the best results gently patting my eye cream into the eye area. Let it sink in and then you are ready for makeup (if you want to wear it!). With continued use you may find you don’t even want to wear concealer any more.

does the paula’s choice c5 super boost vitamin c eye cream work?

Yes! I have been using this eye cream for a while now and love it. Overall, I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality, effective eye cream for day that won’t break the bank. It’s gentle, effective, and easy to use, making it a standout product in my skincare routine.

I’ve been using it for a couple of months and have major pilling but I’m using a full pump. Will try 1/2 pump per your recommendation to see if that helps. I honestly don’t mind the pilling as it works so well and I don’t wear concealer! 🙂

That’s the thing, it really makes such a difference that you can wear less makeup. Try using less and let me know how it goes!
