Tonight, I fly out to Portland, Oregon… I’m visiting with my youngest sister Meredith (and her husband Justin and their dog Ellie!) I couldn’t be more excited. This trip is sort of my last hurrah in terms of big trips before the holidays (I try not to take time off of work in November and December as things get crazy at the office!) and I am also just really excited to get to hang with my sister in her new city. (She moved a year or so ago and I still haven’t visited… bad big sister.)
My sister has made it abundantly clear to me that I am to keep things casual (I think they think I’m more glamorous than I actually am.) Subtle hints have been dropped. “Bring clothes to ride a bike in!” “Make sure you pack your sneakers!!” “Don’t forget your sneakers!!““You have sneakers, right??” I get it. Sneakers. I’ll pack them. No Rockstuds. I’m leaving the high heels at home in favor of easy t-shirts and cozy knits, and to be honest, I’m pretty excited… I can’t wait for four days of (casual!) fun with with my little sis… hiking, riding our bikes around town, (and duh… the bit I’m personally most excited about… wine country! The Willamette Valley in Oregon produces some of my all-time-favorite Pinot Noirs and we’re spending the entire day there tomorrow… heaven.)

LOOOOOVE Portland- such a cool vibe!! Enjoy your trip 🙂 I’ve been looking for a hat like #8, so I might have to order this one!! 🙂
If you get a chance while in Portland, I’d recommend Dicks Kitchen! It’s so delicious and the vibe is so nice! It’s also in a super cute quirky neighbourhood, so you really get to experience the Portland vibe!
Cute outfits! Portland is such a fun city. Be sure to check out Salt & Straw for ice cream.
As a former resident of the PacNW, I highly endorse this packing list. Well done, you!
Also – VOODOO DONUTS. The bacon one. You won’t be sorry.
This sounds like my kind of getaway. I hope you have a great time!
I am from Portland, and my sister lives there now! Tip if you decide to do Voodoo: there are two locations. Go to the one on Davis as the line is usually shorter, and bring cash! For breakfast, i would recommend Waffle Window. It is the best breakfast in my opinion, and inexpensive! For dinner, try little bird. it is the sister restaurant to le pigeon, which is always on best restaurant lists, but is less expensive. I also recommend going shopping on hawthorne street, Oregon is sales tax free! And definitely visit Powells books, it is a HUGE used book store! Have fun!
For the record, I live in Portland and I wear heels on a regular basis 🙂 Have a great time and enjoy the city! Consider throwing some rain boots in your suitcase – it’s pouring here and it’s supposed to continue for most of the weekend. We also have some good shopping (the Pearl District, NW 23rd, etc.) and it’s worth mentioning that we don’t have sales tax so the price on the tag is actually what a product is going to cost you! Let me know if you have time and want to meet up for coffee or a drink or anything. Have a great weekend!
funnn! i love portland — that’s where we got engaged 🙂 and yes, bring some rainboots + an umbrella! have fun and enjoy no sales tax !! xo jillian
Have fun in Portland! These are great picks for a casual weekend. I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun.

How do Madewell t-shirts run? Do you do slouchy or snug?? Thanks!
They’re pretty true to size! I usually buy a size Medium and it’s slouchy but not baggy.
