Perfecting No-Makeup Makeup.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint Review | The Stripe

I am the queen of no makeup-makeup. Like, I don’t want to look like I’m wearing makeup but I still want my skin to look perfect?

For that reason I am realllly into Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint. It’s unlike anything I’ve tried. It’s not quite a foundation, and not quite a tinted moisturizer… it’s this basically creamy tint that instantly absorbs into your skin, covering up flaws but sinking right in so it does not look like you have makeup on. Yes, this is a sponsored post, and I am completely gushing, but it’s truly amazing – one of the best drugstore beauty products I’ve ever tried! Once you find your perfect shade (mine is “natural beige,” I guarantee it – you will be HOOKED.) Skin is softer, more hydrated and just looks naturally radiant and flawless. I’m wearing it in all of these photos and think it makes a major difference in how my skin looks… particularly when it comes with evening out my skin tone.

This year, the tint (along with the makeup remover wipes, which I featured in this post) won Allure’s Best of Beauty Awards, which is a serious, serious honor in the beauty industry. Every year Allure editors spend four months testing out thousands of products (they’ve been doing so since 1996!) narrowing it down to 250+ winners, which represent the most effective and innovative products of the year. You can see all the winners here and shop them on Amazon here! (Use code 20BEAUTYDEAL to take 20% off!)

My skin has been very dry lately and I was looking for a new foundation/tinted moisturizer. Does this help with flaky skin? Would still apply lots of moisturizer first.

Mmmmm… honestly, if your skin is flaky I wouldn’t put anything on it besides moisturizer (thick, thick moisturizer!!!)

Exfoliate manually (with a scrub) and use a moisturizer with fruit acids to chemically exfoliate. And maybe use something like Weleda Skin Food (i swear by it when my skin is being crazy and dry). Once your skin is back to normal then I’d say it’s fine to use something like this… but in my opinion putting any sort of foundation type of product on flaky skin is like putting lipstick on chapped lips… you just want to go there, it will only make you look worse!

    Hi Grace,

Is the product long-wearing compared with what you usually wear? Also, how does one determine what shade of drugstore foundation to purchase?? It’s one reason why I switched to purchasing products at Sephora!

    Thanks 🙂

      Hi Elizabeth,
I found it to be on par with the usual products I wear. I typically go for a lighter foundation, tint, or tinted moisturizer as I don’t love heavy foundation… but a heavier foundation definitely stays on longer. I’d rather feel a little more fresh faced and then touch up my makeup after work.

Re: choosing a shade.. I know, it’s hard! Honestly, I just wing it and tend to have good luck. I’m at a point where I’ve tried SO many products that I can usually eyeball which shade will be my best match (so long as the container is clear, as is the case with this one). I would recommend bringing your existing foundation/tinted moisturizer to the drugstore with you and using that as a comparison.

      Hope that helps!!!

I really love the hydroboost gel in the container and in the tube with spf, both of which I put under my usual tinted moisturizer (Laura mercier). Might have to try this.

Perfect timing! Just ran out of my old tinted moisturizer so needed something new for the no-makeup look! Do you use this tint on top of moisturizer?

Yes! It’s just like any makeup/tinted moisturizer/etc… do your regular skincare routine and then apply this!
