My Wardrobe Heroes

silk shirt, pants, ballet flats

There are certain pieces in my closet that I wear more than anything else. The ones I reach for when I have “nothing to wear,” the pieces that always feel good.

These are my wardrobe heroes. Fabrics that always look and feel their best, cuts that I know will fit nicely no matter what, shoes that are just as comfortable as they are cute. There is the silk blouse I am wearing in the photo above (I’m a little worried as it’s only available in one place and not on the brand’s website, signalling it might be getting phased out). The new version is cotton poplin, but what makes this one special is the whisper-thin (but not sheer!) washed silk habotai fabric. But also: the best chambray shirt (what makes this one great is its long, lean fit and soft, lightweight fabric) and my forever favorite Sézane button-down.

Everyone loves to hate on the High Sport pants, aka the infamous “newsletter pants,” but I wear them so much that for me, the cost per wear is easily under $5.00. I’d much rather buy one expensive thing that I love and wear to death than three or four things that might not hold up as well or aren’t quite as cute. I realize these pants aren’t for everyone (and all bodies are shaped differently), but for me, they always fit, they’re super comfortable, and they make me feel put together. I now own five pairs and reach for them multiple times per week. My 2023 review still rings true.

Below is a round-up of even more “wardrobe heroes.” The pieces I love so much that I think about buying a second one just in case the brand stops making them (as I fear with the TWP silk shirt!!).

I 100% love munch am ray shirts (JCrew and LLBean make my favorites, and I love my JCrew version of the cropped “newsletter” pants. I wear them for traveling and when I need to look pulled together for an outing. They always look great with loafers (or sneakers!), and for recent Europe travel I wore then with lace-up paddock boots and looked super cute with my blazer! But for me, my daily workhorse pieces are my Alex Mill Nico cardigans. They’re perfectly cropped so look great with my wider-leg pants, and I wear them as little jackets over my beloved overalls and they add a touch of intention for these outfits. They’re also super soft but substantial feeling for cozy days at home. For a petite person, they’re my ideal cardigan. I have 5-6 now so there on my daily rotation. Not great to wear under certain jackets or coats though so I’ll usually toss it on my tote to put on when I arrive.
