I’m really excited about today’s blog post. I’ve partnered up with Hair Food, (a newer, at least to me!) haircare brand with a focus on good-for-you ingredients and none of the bad stuff. I can, admittedly, be a little bit of a snob when it comes to my hair products, but for good reason: I spend a lot of money maintaining both my color and keratin treatment, so I have to know that I can trust the brand and won’t mess my hair up. For me, parabens and sulfates are the biggest dealbreaker in any haircare product I’m using. Sulfates in particular as I have a keratin treatment.
For the past three weeks I’ve only used Hair Food’s Avocado & Argan Oil Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner on my hair. I am really impressed with the products! Read on for more about the brand and my experience.
Hair Food believes that what you put on your hair is as important as what you eat. They’re inpired by clean, simple, kitchen-crafted recipes. No sulfates, parabens, dyes, or mineral oil.
There are four different collections: Moisture (with manuka honey and apricot), Purifying (with tea tree and lavender water), Nourishing (with coconut milk & chai spice), and Smooth (with avocado and argan oil).
All four collections are sulfate free (which is important but extra important if you have a keratin treatment – mine is at the end but I still want to preserve it as much as possible as I try to only go twice a year!) I chose to test the smooth collection as that is definitely my biggest concern. It’s not so much dry an damaged as it is unruly!
My personal experience:
First of all, I loved the fragrance. This is a superficial thing but the products smell so good, and I like my hair to smell great. Honestly, I would wear a perfume if they made it. It’s hard to explain the fragrance. But it’s a little bit fruity and floral and smells a little bit like candy but not too sweet.
Like I said above, I tried the products for 3 weeks (and counting – still using them!) I was a little bit nervous how they would measure up (my last shampoo costs $45!) but I was very impressed. The shampoo got my hair very clean without stripping it, and the conditioner left it super soft (not to mention smelling amazing). I 100% recommend these products and am really happy to now have a more affordable haircare brand to recommend that doesn’t contain all the bad stuff.
One last little thing: the true test was when I air dry my hair (which I don’t do very often). My hair was noticeably less unruly (I have cowlicks and it can just do whatever it wants to, especially the top 2-3 inches, since my keratin treatment is wearing out). It was also a lot less frizzy.

I love the name of the brand, reminds me of the Korean brand Skin Food, haha! I’m glad the hair products worked so well for you, Grace. 🙂

Ah yes! I love Skin Food too! Thanks Charmaine, I hope you’re having a great week!
It seems like an amazing brand with really good products! I couldn’t find any information online about it being cruelty-free or not so, for now, I’m gonna pass on that but it’s good to know about it, hair care brands are a bit difficult for me, my hair is such a diva sometimes haha
I have to look into that I am honestly not sure! Thanks Marta!
Do you know how it affects color treated hair?
It’s safe for colored hair!! It’s been great on my highlights (no brassiness) and keratin (the formula is free of sulfates). But I double checked and it’s safe for all types of coloring/dyes.
I totally agree – the fragrance can often make such a difference! Totally need to try them out!
They smell SO GOOD!!!!
I’m all about good smelling hair products LOL love that this one is super natural!
The Champagne Edit
Yes, you must try it! Smells so good.
Okay I need to try this!

hope you love!!
Thank you for the great info on the hair care. I, like you, would use the smooth. Did you feel your hair looked “flatter” and not just smooth?

Not at all! Though I have a lot of hair so that’s never been much of a problem.
I have been looking for a less expensive hair care brand without sulfates, so I am excited to give this brand a try. Also love that they have dry shampoo! Thank you for sharing your results–I have mostly straight hair that has a couple funky cowlicks, and I prefer to air dry my hair.
It sounds like you will love! x
Thanks for this post Grace! As someone who spends a fortune to turn her brunette hair, blonde’ish and her naturally curly hair, straight’ish it put me at total ease that you gave these a 100% (and admitted to being nervous re: the price dip as that’s the case with me going from Oribe and Ouai…). As always, appreciate your thoroughness and honesty and your hair looks GORGE! Happy Bday!
so happy it was helpful!
