This post was originally published last June but I’ve updated it as Lash Slick mascara is one of my most favorite products, especially for summer when I want a mascara that won’t smudge or flake off in the humidity!
A lot of hype has been made about Glossier Lash Slick. Whenever a product gets a ton of attention (the way that so many of Glossier’s products do!) I’m immediately a bit skeptical. Is it just good PR and marketing (and that cute millennial pink packaging)? Or, is it a genuinely good product? I placed my order (yes, #ipaidforthis) the day it came out and could not wait to try it. It was my friend Olivia’s piece for Bustle that really sold me on it – her before & after photos were amazing! When it came in the mail I literally dropped everything to try it.
Glossier Lash Slick
Lash Slick is absolutely, 100% the real deal. You can see the before + after photos below but I’m really loving it. It’s the perfect everyday mascara – it lengthens lashes and gives them a little volume (and a really pretty sheen – lashes almost look wet) but also stays on all day. (The formula is water-resistant, not waterproof; so it stays on all day but you can easily take it off with warm water.) It’s made it through countless yoga classes, several sweaty runs, rain and humidity in Cuba, and a few late nights.
The brush is in my opinion, one of the best parts of this mascara. It has tiered bristles to separate top and bottom lashes at the root, making the formula just glide on. It’s easy to hit those baby lashes at the corner of my eye and I’ve even noticed it curling my lashes a little bit.
Glossier Lash Slick Ingredients
First of all, Lash Slick is cruelty free, paraben free, fragrance free, and hypoallergenic. It’s been tested by ophthalmologists to ensure that it’s safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. It also contains:
- Japanese Fiber Technology. The formula contains one and two millimeter long curved fibers, which hook onto your lashes to add length. Like mini lash extensions.
- Vegan Biotin, which conditions and strengthens – leaving your lashes softer and healtheier.
- Natural Shine Polymers: this is what gives lashes that pretty sheen, making them shiny and sleek and almost “wet” looking.
This is not a waterproof mascara but the wear is amazing. It stays on so well in fact that (note: I am very ashamed and DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS), one night when I accidentally went to bed in my makeup (I never do this, I was deeply exhausted and slightly drunk) and my mascara was still perfect the next day. It didn’t rub off around my eyes, it stayed on perfectly… even through sleep. That is not a good way to test a beauty product but I had to share it as that never happens. This stuff looks natural and does not budge! An A+ from me!
Before and after!
If you read here regularly you know that I’m generally of an “I’ll just buy my mascara at the drugstore” mindset as I’d rather spend my money on skincare. I worked at P&G and Coty for years and saw how much research they put into their brands (it’s all about the brush) and I’ve tried so many $40 mascaras that yield only meh results. And while I still LOVE my favorite Maybelline mascara, this is better for a more natural look. The Maybelline one gives me the drag queen lashes I crave at night – this is great for everyday when you just want to look pretty and natural. And it’s only $16 – yes, more expensive than the drugstore but not nearly as expensive as department store mascaras.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I’ve always loved Maybelline’s mascaras so it was nice to see it compared with a high-end brand!

thanks charmaine!! x
Ok…what am I doing wrong with this stuff? I feel like I have to put like 8 coats on before I even notice it at all. Did I get a bad tube?
Oh no, I don’t know!! I legit think you got a bad tube – email customer service!!!!
I didn’t have good results either! Thought maybe I’m not doing something right..and by noon it was flaking. Not sure if that’s because I use too much eye cream. Had such high hopes, but it didn’t work for me.
So strange! I’m so bummed to hear that as I love it so much!
no, it’s not you — me too — it’s just extremely natural on me and I have to use a million coats. I don’t mind it on super natural days when I just want a little definition and color.
I really like this to for a natural look or when I know I will be outside a lot/it’s really humid out, etc. as it does not smudge or flake! However, as someone with fairly thin lashes, I wouldn’t use it for an evening look as it really is just a lengthening mascara and does not thicken lashes at all. I also have found that it doesn’t really easily remove with warm water. Since it has fibers that attach to your lashes, I sometimes have to kind of pull on my lashes to get them to come off. Do you use any specific makeup remover when you’re removing this mascara?
Oh really? I just take it off using my cleansing oil – I’ve been using one from Caudalie and it works great.
I cannot say enough how much I have been preaching IT IS ABOUT THE BRUSH! Literally I think that no matter what, you have to find the right brush for your lashes and that is going to make all the difference in the world!
The Adored Life
YES 100% ALL ABOUT THE BRUSH! haha – sorry for screaming. It’s the truth!!!
My go to yellow tube of Supergirl has been discontinued, and I have heard enough people rave about this that I actually purchased it yesterday! I trust your recommendations because you are so honest. It’s very refreshing! And you have not steered me wrong yet, especially with the gravity blanket!
Aw thank you!!! I really take pride in providing quality recommendations so I appreciate that. Think you will love this!!
I’m in love with this mascara too! My two requirements for a mascara are that it’s smudge/flake free and easy to remove and this checks both boxes. I also love that the brush is at a small angle so it’s easy to apply. Well done Glossier! xAllie

Yes I totally agree! I really loved it!!!
Grace, I’m also a die-hard drugstore mascara gal (you’re right-why spend the extra money on something that does the same job?). But I enjoy sporting a more natural look, especially in the summer, so I think this post just steered me in the right direction! Thank you!
Xxx
Give this a try. In the scheme of things it’s not that much more expensive than drugstore mascaras and it’s really really nice. I love how long it stays on!!! Let me know what you think! 🙂
Hi Grace! Have you tried applying another mascara over the lash slick? I’m curious if it’s worth purchasing so I can get drag queen + lengthening 🙂
Hi Alex, I haven’t! I don’t really see the point but I bet you could layer it!
it’s definitely super natural and has fibers so not sure this would be what you’re working for — I’d go for a primer and an intense mascara — this is super super natural.
This Lash Stick sounds like its worth a try. Where is it sold? Also which Maybelline mascara do you currently use and like as well.
Hi Paula,
Everything is linked (click the pink text) – both the Lash Slick and the Maybelline mascara!
Yes! I agree it is so good. I have watery allergy eyes all year and oily skin, so I’ve had so much trouble wearing mascara. I’ve tried waterproof, but who wants to spend an hour taking mascara off. I tried some tubing mascaras, and they are better, but expensive. I had resigned myself to not using mascara but would try one or so every year. The most recent I tried was Lash Paradise, but my lashes looked so crunchy and fake. Then there were the smudges three hours later. But Lask Slick is unbelievable!! Lashes look natural and really good! No crunchy weirdness. It stays put and it is easy to take off!!! I don’t know if it’s life-changing, but it’s definitely lash changing!! You mention research and I feel like Glossier must have spent their time truly researching what women want from a mascara. If you’re into drama, it may not be your mascara. But if you just want to look really good — give it a try.
I totally agree!
I’m so excited to try this! I’ve tried tons of mascara and am currently using (expensive) Diorshow. I love how it looks but, just like every other mascara I’ve tried, it smudges off under my eyes SO much. I’ve heard amazing things about Lash Slick not budging and am glad to hear it from you, too.

It’s definitely one of the best mascaras I’ve ever tried! Love!
What is your favorite Maybelline mascara? The one that gives u drag queen lashes.
Hi Adele, I linked to it in the blog post!!!
Everyone comes out with ‘the best ever.” If one could believe all the ads and articles it would be great then you could go shopping for each make-up item you want and not spend a lot of money, have a draw full of cosmetic that do not work for you. I think it would be wonderful if cosmetic manufacturers would make a free sample of their products for ladies to try.
Sold! I’m getting this. If it holds a curl – even better!

Yay – I hope you love it. Thanks Lisa!!
Love this mascara and love that it’s cruelty free
It’s such a good one!
I’ve always loved Glossier’s brand and packaging – such a bonus that the mascara works so well! 🙂 I don’t use mascara often, though – just personal preference – but this product is great to know in case I ever change my mind! ❤️✨

Thanks Charmaine!
Hi Grace – not sure how long you’ve had your tube and have been testing this, but can you speak to how long a tube lasts before you have to repurchase? Nothing drives me crazier than spending money on a mascara and it dries up in a couple months. Thanks!
Hey! I’d say mine lasted 9 or 10 months. I didn’t use it every single day but probably 3-4x a week? I’d say it lasted quite long, compared to other brands!
I don’t use mascara often either, as I am blessed with long thick lashes that I have tinted. I just curl them, but when I want something more dramatic and the tint starts to fade I use mascara. I had put away my tube of lashslick and recently tried it again and I do really like it. It doesn’t seem to flake ( serious pet peeve) or smudge which seems to happen to me with many brands. Thanks for re-review!
You’re so lucky! Mascara and brows are the two makeup items I feel naked without.
YES Total Temptation Waterproof and Lash Slick are my two faves too (the regular Total Temptation is too wet almost??)! I have short and thin Asian lashes and they’re so great for length and separation. The Total Temptation is a great punched up version for sure, but I do love Lash Slick for a more natural look.
Ah I love it!!! They are both fab!!!
Hi Grace – Thanks for this. I always find your reviews informative. Have you tried the Honest mascara? It is a similar price point and I’ve heard really good things. I’d love to know your thoughts. Thanks!
I haven’t tried it! Honestly I don’t really love the Honest company! I’ve tried a few of their products but was just not into anything I tried, so I haven’t made an effort to test much more from them. But now I’m intrigued by the mascara!
Yessss, it’s my favorite everyday mascara! I like that it’s not aggressively waterproof but stays put for the most part
That’s what I like, too!!! You don’t have to scrub it, but it doesn’t budge during the day!
I trust you. That is all.
haha, thank you! xo
Does the smell bother you? I want to love it (I LOVE glossier/Emily), but I can’t get over the chemical smell.
I actually didn’t notice a smell!!!!! I went and smelled mine and still didn’t notice anything. And that’s funny because I have a pretty strong sense of smell.
Hey I really want to try this mascara but glossier doesn’t ship where I live and it’s really hard to get:(, can you please recommend the best drugstore dupe cuase from the review and other makeup tutorials i have watched it seems amazing:)
Hey Melissa! To be honest I haven’t found a drugstore brand that measures up to Glossier Lash Slick. This Revlon one is kind of similar but not really? Probably the closest that I’ve tried though. The comb applicator is pretty similar.
