I’ve always been a little bit fixated on my nails. I don’t know about you but if my nails (and my hair) are in a good place, I generally feel armed and ready to tackle anything the universe might throw my way. Today I’ve teamed up with Nordstrom Beauty Spot to talk nails… most specifically, my favorite nail trends for Fall. I’d love to hear which trends you’ll be trying this Fall… leave me a comment below!
Trend #1: Mermaid // Iridescent:
This is probably in general, my favorite trend for Fall ’13. There is a pair of heels coming out from Rebecca Minkoff, and when they do I will (literally) pull hair to make them mine. It’s all over the upcoming collections from Milly, Rebecca Minkoff, DVF, and Tory Burch. If you’re too tame to try this trend in your wardrobe, why not give it a go on your fingers or toes? I love these options from Essie, Topshop, Dior, and Ciaté.
Tip: Prime your nails with a coat of white polish to let the color really pop. Iridescent polishes can go dull after a day or two, so be sure to refresh with clear top coat every few days.
Trend #2: Crimson Half Moon
This one (as seen at Oscar de la Renta) is super wearable, and a great take on the classic dark nail. All you do differently is apply a reinforcement sticker (found at any office supply store) to the top part of your nail to block off the natural moon at the bed of your nail. Brush on two shades of crimson nail polish (I love Hot ‘n Saucy from La Metier de Beaute or Ciaté Dangerous Affair), let it dry, and peel off the sticker. Finish things off with clear top coat.
Trend #3: Blackest Black
I love what Butter London did at Kaelen. Black nails are a given during Fall but they gave it a prettier spin. Get the look by painting on two coats of black nail polish and finishing with a coat of matte top coat (this is another good option.) Then, go over the tips with the glossy black polish. It’s like the french manicure, with a goth twist.
Trend #4: Pink Tips
I thought this look (seen at JSong) was so fresh and fun. Simply tape off your nails (leaving the first third off) with scotch tape or masking tape, and coat the first third of your nails with hot pink polish (I love Estee Lauder Berry Hot or MAC Steamy) Once dry, peel off the tape and seal with a coat of clear top coat.
Trend #5: Black Half Moon
This trend is an oldie but definitely a goodie. I remember doing this to my nails a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised to see it on the runways of La Mer this year. Apply two coats of nude polish (try BP Sandbar, Jin Soon Nostalgia, or MAC Hangin’ Loose) and allow to dry. Then dip a thin paint brush into a bottle of black polish and trace a black moon onto the bed of the nail. Seal with a coat of clear top coat.
That’s it from me… be sure to stop by Nordstrom Beauty Spot for more trends and tutorials.

You “nailed” the looks for Fall!! I am wearing OPI’s iridescent Peace & Love right now. I also put a glitter top coat on each ring finger similiar to Deborah Lippmann’s Happy Birthday! Love it!
I really like the half-moon look. It’s so different and edgy! I usually opt for a dark dark burgundy for fall, but this year I’m going to try to mix it up with deep green, navy and black.
Classic black never fails me — but I picked up a dark dark green hue and I love how it looks at times green and at times black in the light!
That mermaid look and nail pairing is spot on,love!
I think all of them are really pretty. I would try the mermaid look first!
I’m totally inspired to try pink tips now!
I’m still not sure how I feel about half-moon shape, I think I need to try it out once to decide for sure, but I love the colors you picked!
I’m planning a half moon mani for the first time using two grey shades, wish me luck!
I love the first mermaid colours and that clutch!
Luxx Mint
you found the perfect shade! Fun choices Grace:)
I agree with Dana! I’m not a big fan of those half moon looks, but I love all the colors. The oil slick/mermaid one is fantastic! I also have yet to really try all black nails, so I might go for it this year when our texas weather officially turns. I like it, I just never thought of myself as edgy enough for it.
I love all the dark shades for fall. Half-moon manis look weird on me because I have tiny fingernails- what a bummer!
