Believe it or not, in my everyday life, I don’t actually wear red lipstick all the time. Don’t get me wrong… I love my red lipstick, and for a big night out it’s my go-to. And when I have a shoot or an event, I always wear it (or I’ll look washed out in photos)… That being said, in my day to day, it’s usually just a hydrating balm, gloss, or something with just a little bit of tint. My lips to get so chapped this time of year so hydrating products are my everything. Today I’ve rounded up my five favorites!
The first is Fresh’s Sugar Shine Treatment in clear. This is hands down, my favorite lip gloss. It’s my favorite for so many reasons, but for me, the most important thing is that it’s not sticky at all… despite leaving lips super shiny and glossy and staying on for a decent amount of time. I say, “a decent amount of time” because as a general rule, if a lip gloss is not sticky, it slips off within minutes. So many of my fashion friends hate lip gloss and make fun of me for wearing it so much, but I really just love a great clear gloss. I am almost always wearing this product. It’s also very hydrating and has that yummy lemon-sugar scent that all of Fresh’s Sugar products have.
Then there are two color products (I swatched them for you at the bottom of the post).
The first is Chanel Boy. My best friend got me hooked on this and it’s just the best. I think of it as my fancy tomboy lipstick. It imparts the perfect amount of color and shine to make your lips look just like your own lips… but prettier. Bonus points for the packaging. I hate myself for saying this, but there’s something fabulous about pulling a Chanel lipstick out of my bag.
The second is 3 Custom Color’s Lipstick in Ballet Russe Sheer. I received this at an event in a gift bag a year or so ago and randomly decided to put it on one day, only to discover the perfect sheer red. The photos are misleading (refer to the swatch below) because it looks red in the tube but it’s sheer and delicate on your lips. I don’t know why it’s so hard to find a good sheer red (they always end up looking pink or coral on rather than just a nice sheer wash of red), but I’ve tried so many and hadn’t found one that I like until this one.
Next up are two lip balms. It’s funny how lip balms can be so different. As a general rule, I keep By Terry’s Baume de Rose on my desk at home and Rodin’s Lip Balm in my bag.
Baume de Rose is the most luxurious hydrating lip balm ever. But it’s not at all shiny or shimmery… so it makes for the perfect base layer or bedtime treatment. It’s also great for your cuticles. I typically apply it before my lipstick or gloss (it’s great under the Sugar Shine Treatment). It smells faintly of rose and has developed a massive cult following… I swear, every beauty editor I know carries it with her!
On the other side of the coin, Rodin’s Lip Balm is also very hydrating (hello shea butter!) but is more of a standalone gloss. It’s ever so slightly tinted – just enough to make a difference, and contains a teensy amount of shimmer (I hate writing that as shimmer sounds scary… it’s just enough to make the balm a bit more reflective and shiny than your standard lip balm).
On the left is Ballet Russe and on the right is Boy!
Also.. the jewelry in this post. It’s all BaubleBar. Tassel Necklace, Gold Cuff (sold out but similar), and Crystal Cuff.
What are your favorite day-to-day lip products!? I’m always looking for fun new products to try…
I love finding new lip colors. I luckily have a skin tone/hair color that allows me to wear so many different shades. Have a great week!

Oooooh love this post. Must try that Baume de Rose!!
These lip shades are so pretty! I love red lipstick too, but it’s not an every day lip color for me either. I really love nude or neutral shades.

I love the colors of Tata Harper but wish they were more hydrating. When my lips are super dry, I use aquafor or Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream to revive them.
My favourite to use was Balea’s lip balm with vitamin e and aloe vera but Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada discontinued it. I ‘m very sad lmao. Now I use a Nivea one with aloe vera to compensate but it’s not the same in application. Requires more layers for the same effect.

Love all sugar products and has a self-obessessed lip balm expert, i’m ordering the Baume de Rose. Anything Rose!
I love the Fresh lip gloss in Rose, always in my bag and the Chanel cocoa rouge line is great. I didn’t care for boy on me, but I have 3 other colors. I’ll have to try your other suggestions, I heard good things about them. I’m a gloss girl and my sister is lipstick. My lips get dry easily, so lipgloss, just works better for me. I guess lipstick is considered more chic, but we are more causal on the West Coast anyway. It’s a personal preference I think .
I’ve been meaning to try Fresh’s Sugar products forever! Now I definitely will have to 🙂 Thanks for sharing your picks, Grace!

Lip color always puts me in a better mood even if it’s a barely there type color. Recently I’m hooked on NARS Babydoll Gloss. It’s the perfect amount of pink for this drab winter weather.

When you wear balm under lipstick, do you let it sink in and then blot before applying lipstick? My bright lipsticks are feeling so drying but not sure how to actually treat my lips without having the lipstick just slide right off!
That By Terry’s Baume de Rose is def on my wish list!
