When I put the call out to you guys to see what you’d like me to talk about on the blog this fall, the biggest request I got was for fall + winter coats. Admittedly, I have a lot of coats. Probably too many, if we are being honest. I’ve accumulated them from over the years (so not everything featured here is going to be brand new, but I have provided some fun similar options!).
I love the transformative power of a great coat. You can be wearing the most plain outfit ever (or if you’re me, sweatpants, running to get a bagel but still wanting to look socially acceptable by pulling on a great coat (okay and maybe a big pair of sunglasses, too!) It took me a while to put together this round-up. I wanted to be as thorough as possible. I didn’t do parkas or casual coats like fleeces, etc. but those are less exciting to me. ALSO – I’m not suggesting you need all of these coats… that would be insane! I just wanted to provide my personal favorites… one or two is probably more than enough!
(After you decide on a favorite coat, check out yesterday’s post – a roundup of my favorite fall and winter accessories… all the best hats, scarves, gloves, etc.!)
outfit details: J.Crew Coat (a few years old – the style is called “Daphne” if you’re looking for it secondhand – it’s also available in light blue, here!) // Monogram Tee // Re/Done Jeans (mine are a couple years old but these look similar!) // Margaux Pumps
My Favorite Coats for Fall
A pink coat.
I love a pretty pink coat. Blair gifted me this pink coat from her collection and I absolutely love it. The quality is fantastic – and I can’t believe that it’s $249… it feels more like an $800 coat. Julia also gave me this coat from her collection. I never thought I’d be the girl with two pink coats (you definitely do not need two!!!) but here we are. At least the styles are pretty different!
A great camel coat.
The photos above and below are old, but I bought this Vince coat 5 or 6 years ago during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and it’s just the best. Something like this, you’ll have forever. I’m rounding up a few of my favorite camel coats in the collage below. They’re all great. There’s also this year’s version of the Vince coat. It’s pricy, but the fact that this coat is still my favorite, years later, speaks volumes.
Camel Coats: Mural Colorblock Coat // Madewell Coat // Topshop Coat
A fun statement coat!
This one (gifted) is from Pendleton and it’s so fun. But here are a bunch more statement coats I really love! Ugh they are all so fun!
(All of these fun statement coats have me wishing for a bigger closet!)
Statement Coats: J. Crew Lady Day Coat // Gal Meets Glam Coat // Mural Leopard Coat // Sam Edelman Teddy Coat // Halogen x Atlantic-Pacific Polka Dot Coat // Stand Studio Cocoon Coat // Halogen x Atlantic-Pacific Colorblock Coat // Rose’ a Pois Coat
Menswear
I love an oversized menswear style coat. The one I’m wearing is from Eileen Fisher, available here and here. I love it so much. I will caveat that it runs extremely large. I’m wearing the XXS/XS which is laughable (I’m 5’8 and usually a small or a medium in most things). Below are a few more good options… I LOVE that Madewell one on the far right!
Menswear Coats: NVLT Coat // Everlane Coat // Madewell Coat

I love that you’re so adventurous with your coats, Grace! I’m boring, always wearing the same camel, grey and black colours!

Isn’t it! Def a new fav!!!
I just bought a puffy leopard print coat from the gap for this winter. I wasn’t sure if it was too much, but my friends convinced me it’s not. I love it so much, it’s so big and cozy!
Oh that sounds amazing!!! Love anything leopard!!!
I wish I had a need for a big coat. I live in a sub tropical climate in Australia and there is just no need for anything like this which is so sad as I love winter clothes of any kind. Just looking at these is making me feel sweaty right now!
Ahh absolutely obsessed with this last look!! You look amazing and the styling is beyond perfect. I own 37 coats and can’t stop… but may have to add a few of these to my Xmas list! See you Fri at the live show!!
Thank you! And wow – I envy your closet space!!!!
Love this post and the accessories post! I live in Texas now but I’m from Wisconsin so I have several investment coats that are sooooo good IMO – hahahahah! My fav is 20 years old. I saved my pennies and bought it in college from JCrew and it’s still a staple each winter. Love the red coat, the leopard, and the blush – great variety, thank you for posting!! Any thoughts on renting your coats? It seems like people who have limited storage space are going to that as well.
Thank you! I don’t really have thoughts on renting coats but I am a member of Rent the Runway and I think I could see myself renting more statement-y coats (like big faux fur, etc!)
I have been so attracted to coats this season, it is almost funny! I have a few staples in my coat collection, but want to add some more fun pieces! I recently got the Marissa coat from Gal Meets Glam, and it #sparksjoy for me!! I think I want one of everything from the GMG coat collection ahah. I love the list you have curated, Grace!! I agree on every account. Coats are SO fun! 🙂
