If you have been reading here for a while, you know that I will only use natural deodorant (specifically: aluminum free) and am basically on a constant hunt for the perfect one. This is currently my favorite, but I have had a lot of annoying issues since making the switch a few years back. Natural deodorants that don’t work… or I’ll find one I really love and then it will stop working. It all depends on your body chemistry (which can change), so it isn’t easy! I have switched things up so many times which I don’t mind (I think it’s fun to try new products) but it can also be a pain.

One thing I have found really helpful is to do an armpit detox mask from time to time. In the past I would use my Origins charcoal mask, and that worked really well! But when I heard about Megababe Happy Pits I was excited to try it. I think I actually ordered it the exact day it came out. A mask made just for my underarms… sign me UP!

Megababe Happy Pits Review

I loved this mask. It’s great, and I find that when I use it once a week my natural deodorant works even better than usual. No B.O. whatsoever. And I LOVE the applicator (photo below). You just squeeze it out and roll it on… NO MESS, which is just genius!

Why you should try an armpit detox!

I think the biggest two reasons to try an armpit detox are that a) you are finding that your favorite natural deodorant isn’t working any more or b) you are switching up your routine from an aluminum based deodorant to something natural or aluminum-free. When you switch to a natural deodorant there’s a standard detox period where (sorry, just being honest) you stink. It sucks. I have found that making sure to exfoliate my underarms in the shower, + also swiping my pits with an alcohol wipe or lemon helped, but it’s unavoidable. This helps you to skip that.

Why it works!

This mask contains a mix of purifying ingredients (charcoal + kaolin clay) to draw out impurities, exfoliating/clarifying ingredients to deeply cleanse (glycolic acid which is an AHA, Willow Bark Extract, a natural BHA, and Vitamin C), and soothing ingredients to calm inflammation (tea tree oil!) It’s the perfect trifecta! Charcoal is a power ingredient (which is why I love charcoal deodorants!). It’s porous and acts like a magnet to attract and draw out impurities.

How to do it!

Usually what I do is sit in the tub and apply it and just let it sit on my armpits for 10 minutes or so. You don’t have to keep your arms up or anything, just be sure not to get them wet. I typically just sit up in the tub a bit straighter than normal (my tub isn’t very big!) and then I just hang out and read for 10-15 minutes before rinsing it off.

An armpit detox sounds so funny! But it makes sense, the concept of it. Thanks for sharing, Grace! ❤️✨

I bought it on the first day too! Katie makes it, I buy it. Those are the rules.

Love the applicator. I have a few friends who won’t convert so they are getting this and Rosey Pits for Christmas! Winter is the perfect time to convert to natural deodorant!

I love your natural deodorant reviews but the more I’ve read, the more inconsistent you are. You said you don’t like native because it doesn’t work for you and then here you say it’s your favorite. I just purchased the kopari charcoal deodorant because of your review but now I don’t know what to think. I’m honestly curious what the best one is and I want to find it. Also I hope you know this is coming from a place of confusion and not aggression. No hate I’m just curious what’s your fave because I’m on the hunt and you seem to be dedicated to finding it!

      Hey Sarah,
I had talked about this on instagram stories a while back but I think Native reformulated. I hated it when I first tried it. I got it in a gift bag and tried it on a whim and I loved it and did an extremely long story about how shocked I was and apologized for shit talking about Native. The Kopari is really great too. Right now though the Native is my favorite. Honestly, it is inconsistent because I find that most natural deodorants stop working after a time, and I have to switch – or do something like this mask.

    Hi Grace!
I am looking to switch back to natural deodorant (either Happy Pits or I have the Native sitting in my drawer..) and am fearing the “stink” and irritation that I have experienced in the past. Would you suggest doing the detox after a few days on a natural deodorant when the unpleasantries arise, or as a preventative detox before I even start using the natural deodorant?
Trying to figure out best way to switch back and incorporate the detox, especially in such a busy social time of year!

      Hey Katie,
I would probably do a detox as you start the switch. Doesn’t really make sense to do it preemptively as the point of the detox is to detox from all the chemicals in conventional deodorants. So I’d probably start at the same time, i.e the week you switch, do the detox mask every couple days to help out!
