The New Nude Lip.

Get ready, friends… there is a new nude lipstick in town. It’s almost brown, almost gray… but still neutral, and extremely flattering. I had my first encounter with this new neutral when I attended a benefit a few weeks ago as a guest of Maybelline. They were doing little makeovers and when asked I went with my standard “just something natural looking, please…” I was shocked by how much I loved the color (Gone Griege). It was a bit more edgy than I’d usually do… and a huge departure from my usual bright red-orange lip… but all the same, I ended up falling in love with the shade and wearing it constantly.

I wore it to a party a month or so ago and ended up getting photographed so you can see how it looked on me here. It’s truly just the best nude lip I’ve tried! I ended up giving one to my best friend and it looked amazing on her, too. Best lipstick ever… and from the drugstore, no less!

Inspired by my new nude lip, I tried a few more options from a few other favorite brands.

L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Gloss in Statement Nude is another obsession of mine. I wrote about it in more detail here. The color is much warmer than the “Gone Griege,” but the formula is divine. It’s so soft and creamy (and hydrating) but still translates to a matte finish. There’s nothing else like it… it’s a hug for your lips! The matte look is so in this season but it can be really drying… not the case with this one!

Maybelline Nude Thrill is more of a classic nude but I love it. I like doing a bolder eye and wearing this… it gives a very sixties/mod vibe… almost like applying concealer to your lips.

Stila Liquid Lipstick in Caramello is probably the longest-wearing lipstick I’ve ever tried. Once it sets, it stays ON. This one is a little lighter than Gone Griege and looks a bit funny on me right now (with a tan) but I think it will be perfect when my skin goest back to it’s naturally (very pale) state this Fall.

L’Oreal Fairest Nude is a pinker version of Gone Griege. I find that it looks exactly like my natural lip color (just prettier) and I love how weightless it is. It’s a really great everyday lipstick.

NARS Pencil in Bahama is so good. I HAD to find a similar NARS pencil option as the Velvet Lip Pencils are one of my holy grail beauty products. I wear Red Square constantly and I’m so happy I have a new nude counterpart to wear with it. It’s more of a traditional nude but so pretty and flattering on everyone.

Maybelline Gone Griege is, as mentioned above, what started the whole obsession. It’s really unlike any of the other lip colors I’ve tried. The brown/blue undertones make it feel really different + special… and flattering!

NARS Lipstick in Barbara is probably the most similar to Gone Griege but it looks a bit more rosy. If you are nervous about your nude lip looking too brown, you should try this one. I personally LOVE the NARS Audacious lipsticks. The formulas are super pigmented and creamy
