L’Oreal Women of Worth.

The L’Oreal Women of Worth Awards were something I was really looking forward to this year (I was lucky enough to also attend last year as well). Besides the opportunity to get dressed up, and the fact that it’s a star-studded affair (Karlie! Blake! Diane!) it is also one of the reasons that I am so proud to be a member of the L’Oreal League, as these awards not only give back to the community but also empower incredible women to make an even bigger difference in their communities. Every year, the brand selects ten amazing women as honorees – each receive $10,000 toward their charitable cause. And one winner is chosen as the National Honoreee – she will receive an additional $25,000. Pretty amazing. (I rounded up all of the different causes at the end of the post, in case you were curious to see what they are!) There is never a dry eye in the room, and I always leave feeling so motivated to find ways to make a greater difference in the world.

L’Oreal provided us with hair + makeup prior to the awards. I don’t wear very much makeup in my everyday life so I love taking the opportunity to get glam! I went for an old school Hollywood look – hair pinned to the side, bright red lips (I went with L’Oreal British Red – it’s such a good “Hollywood” red!), bold lashes. Reiss gifted me this dress to wear (the ombre is such a statement-maker!!), and I paired it with jewelry from my Ben-Amun collection.

(Meeting Karlie Kloss was pretty epic! She was so, incredibly sweet and patient as everyone nearby wanted to snap a pic with her.)

In case you are interested, here is a full list of the ten honorees – they are really worth checking out… each of these women are doing incredible things. They each could be their own blog post, but I wanted to at least give you a tiny glimpse into who they are.

• Sandra Gunn; Leslie’s Week – they donate vacation homes for one week every year to a family whose mother is diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. In 2016 alone, they provided 23 Vacations Away from Cancer.
• Jessica Kidd; Gracie’s Gowns – they create homemade, personalized gowns for children around the world who are battling chronic illnesses.
• Orlaith Staunton – The Rory Staunton Foundation for Sepsis Prevention – dedicated to raising awareness for Sepsis, which is treatable but kills more than 250,000 Americans every year (scary fact – that’s more than breast cancer, prostate cancer, and AIDS combined).
• Marian Hamilton – The Ken Hamilton Caregivers Center – an “oasis” for caregivers to take time for themselves as they tend to their loved ones.
• Diane Latiker – Kids Off The Block – helping keep low-income, at-risk youth off of the streets.
• Kathy Tillotson – Build Futures – dedicated to providing immediate housing for homeless youth ages 18-24 in Orange County, CA.
• Debbie Sardon – Cleaning For A Reason – provides home cleaning services for women undergoing cancer treatments to help allow them to focus on their health + treatment.
• Monica Gray – DreamWakers – virtually connects low-income schools with professionals working across a variety of industries to help expose students to a wide range of career paths + prepare them for the futre.
• Carly Yoost – Child Rescue Coalition – uses technology to track down child predators and protect children from sexual abuse. (While all of these organizations are amazing, I was blown away by Carly’s work in particular… to date they’ve helped to arrest more than 8,000 child predators and rescue nearly 2,000 children who were targets of potential sexual abuse). Carly was this year’s winner and she could not be more deserving of it!
• Nadya Okomoto – Camions of Care – provides homeless women with access to feminine hygeine products. I was particularly amazed by Nadya as she is still in college!

Look closely – yes, those are branded tissues! Smart… there is never a dry eye in the house.
