Kelly’s Chic Under $100: Self Care Essentials.

The Danish concept of “hygge” translates roughly to “cozy” (it isn’t quite a direct translation, but comes close!). It’s a combination of being surrounded by loved ones, experiencing material comforts (and comfort food!), and wrapping yourself in a warm blanket of contentment. Ideal, right? Last Friday marked the first official day of fall, and while it still doesn’t quite feel like it yet, I’m wholeheartedly ready to indulge in some self-care and embrace hygge to begin to reset, refresh, and grow from a very long summer. Some of my favorite affordable self-care essentials are above & below so that you, too, can treat yo’self on a budget.

Start with some cozy pajamas that you don’t have to feel badly about if you don’t change out of them all day. Give yourself a mani and a face mask (or two!) and try some self tanner if that’s your thing! Light a candle, read a book, bake something craving-worthy, and curl up under a cozy blanket. What could be better?

And finally, as I remind myself every day, your own wellbeing is more important than anything else. So long as you can learn to tell those around you when you need that self-care time, you’ll be on the path to nirvana (& hygge) in no time.
