Today, Taylor Davies of Eat, Sleep, Denim, Shut Up I Love That Shirt on You, and IFB is taking over! I have yet to actually hang with Miss Taylor, but I know that we’d get along famously. What I love most about Taylor’s blog(s,) amongst other things, is that she’s hilarious. You know those blogs that you just scroll along to see the pretty pictures? That’s not the case with Taylor. I read her posts, word for word.
If ever there were a sartorial combination that I could get behind, it’s stripes, sequins – and denim. When I first discovered Grace’s blog a while back, I thought to myself, “This is a girl who’s closet I would like to raid.” And it’s true, she’s got excellent taste. Not to mention DIY skills that would make Martha Stewart green with envy.
So when Grace asked if I’d like to do a guest post while she went off gallivanting around Europe, I leaped at the chance to jump on my soapbox and proclaim my love for stripes, sequins and a dash of denim. Here’s a glimpse at how I typically (and very frequently) work these elements into my ensembles for day and night.
…When The Sun Shines…
I’ll let you in on a little secret: I’ve never met a breton-striped shirt I didn’t like. I have at least three, and they rotate through my weekly wardrobe regularly. In my mind, navy and white sort of function like a blank canvas, so I try to paint a little color on top. Usually by adding a silk scarf tied around my neck (jaunty, I know) or a bright bag. I love the look of pairing a classic preppy piece like this Saint James shirt with a destroyed, relaxed jean (rolled at the ankle of course) and a totally glam shoe. And by glam I mean sparkling, but flat. (I will forever be a flats girl and I make no apologies for it!) Anyway, the overall effect is very California by way of Connecticut, with a pit stop in Paris, no?
…After Sunset…
As a denim blogger, I get to try out every wash, cut and color of jean under the sun. It’s fun to explore different looks and try out new fits, but I am a die-hard skinny jeans girl, and probably will be for life. Lately I’ve been having a serious moment for waxed or coated denim, because it gives you the tough-chic look of leather, but with the comfort, flex and stretch of denim. In my eyes, this makes them a perfect pant for a night out; whether it’s dancing til dawn on a Saturday night or grabbing a glass of pinot noir with friends on a Wednesday evening. To elevate what could be a very daytime look, I’ll add a simple, sophisticated pump, a glittery-as-they-come clutch and some serious jewels like this Ericson Beamon For Bauble Bar necklace.
